Breast Cancer Awareness Session at AFJOG

The Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was first launched under the name Pink Ribbon in 1985. Every year in October, various events are held worldwide to raise awareness about the early detection, treatment, and cure of breast cancer.

However, breast cancer awareness should not be limited to one month — it is needed throughout the year, every day, in hospitals, clinics, and on social media.

AFJOG arranged an awareness session on breast cancer in collaboration with the Dilawar Hussain Foundation on 15th October 2025 at AMRC. A large number of patients, women from nearby areas, friends, and doctors attended the programme.

Lectures were delivered on self-examination techniques, the necessary investigations for early detection, diagnosis, and referral for treatment. It was also announced that any woman who has concerns can request a breast examination by a doctor at our clinics.

AFJOG has facilities for breast ultrasound (USG) and needle biopsy when required. I am pleased to announce the addition of Prof. Dr. Rozina, a histopathologist, to our team. She has kindly offered her services for breast examinations and for performing needle biopsies of any masses detected on ultrasound.

We will ensure that all women visiting our clinics have access to these facilities, Insha’Allah.

We are also planning to collaborate with the Dilawar Hussain Foundation in other specialties and to initiate joint research programmes. An MOU will soon be signed with your consent.

Flood Relief Update
4 October 2025

My dear friends, members, and well-wishers of AFJOG,
AOA,

As I mentioned in my last newsletter, we planned to target the next colony in Mingora (Swat).

Yesterday, our AFJOG team visited Mohalla Mulwe Baba in Mingora (Swat). The team was better organised this time. The area was surveyed, and their immediate needs were noted. A senior member of the community was selected to collect ID cards and record the names of the heads of families along with the number of family members.

After that, the distribution started — one by one — according to the ID cards. Blankets and mattresses were given to each family. It was a very well-organised effort.

We were short of about fifteen pairs of mattresses and blankets (Razai, cotton-filled). Additional items will be purchased on Monday and distributed on Tuesday, Insha’Allah.

I would like to share some photographs of this distribution.

Thank you for your kind attention and encouragement.
Jazak Allah,
Muneera Ahmad

KK HELP Programme Extends Its Reach

AFJOG has been running a Hepatitis Elimination Programme known as KK HELP at our clinics for many years. These clinics are held on Mondays at AMRC and Saturdays at AFJOG House.

On Mondays, patients are screened for Hepatitis B and C by our physicians, investigated, and, if required, referred to the Saturday clinic. Prof. Dr. Altaf Aalam, a renowned hepatologist, has been running the Saturday clinic very efficiently for the last ten to fifteen years.

This programme has been named KK HELP (Khalid Khwaja Help) after the late Dr. Khalid Khwaja, a renowned liver transplant surgeon and the son of former AFJOG President Dr. Zahida Khwaja.

Most of the population in the areas surrounding these two clinics has been screened, diagnosed, and treated for Hepatitis B and C. Very few new positive cases of Hepatitis B and C are now being detected in this area. However, old patients continue to visit AFJOG regularly to complete their treatment. We have also tried to vaccinate almost every patient attending any of our clinics for Hepatitis B.

To further expand hepatitis awareness, diagnosis, and treatment, we decided to target the population of another area.

On Tuesday, 30th September 2025, our doctors, headed by Dr. Zahida Khwaja, launched a screening programme at Chamrupur Village, Raiwind Road, Lahore. Screening activities were conducted under the guidance of our senior doctors — Dr. Zahida Khwaja, Dr. Farihah Malik, and Dr. Rakhshi.

Dr. Farihah Malik, a PhD in Public Health from Cambridge, is currently working as a Professor of Public Health at Lahore Medical University, Defence Road near Bhobatian Chowk. She is the daughter of one of our Afjites, Professor Dr. Zujaja Zaheer. AFJOG feels honoured to have such a committed and dedicated person like Dr. Farihah in our team.

Flood Update – 29th September 2025

Dear Afjietes, Friends, and Donors of AFJOG,
AOA,

As I have already mentioned, our next and consecutive move is to cover the flood-affected colonies in Mingora, one by one.

Today, dry rations and clothes were distributed to Mohalla Marghuzar Town, Mingora (Swat). We can see the ration packs being prepared for distribution.

There are a few such colonies located at some distance from each other. In this particular colony, there were twelve families. Alhamdulillah, the ration supply provided is approximately enough for three months.

I am also forwarding some videos of the affected families. We will contact you again soon after our visit to the next colony.

Thank you, and JazakAllah Khair.

We have been in constant contact with our Vice President KPK, Dr. Hameeda Sikander. She informed us that an area of Mingora in Swat has been badly affected by floods, and the people there are in great difficulty. Although many have moved to safer places, their homes are so badly damaged that two to three (sometimes multiple) families are forced to share a single small house. The houses are overcrowded, and the residents are without food and clothing. As we all know, the devastation and destruction in Mingora (Swat) is unimaginable.

After conducting a survey, we decided to divide the area into colonies on both sides of the river so that relief can be organized systematically. We aim to reach each colony one by one.

Floods Update – 24th September 2025

AOA,
I would like to give you a brief overview of our activities in KPK today.

Today, we reached Makanbagh Mohalla Bangladesh (name of the mohalla). We had transferred funds to Dr. Hameeda to purchase essential supplies locally, based on immediate needs.

The following items were distributed:

Dry food supplies: atta, rice, lentils, ghee, sugar, tea leaves, salt

Toiletries: toilet soap, washing soap

Clothing and shoes

Some families also received blankets and mattresses

This mohalla had 24 families, all of whom received rations today under the supervision of Dr. Hameeda.

The next colony, on the other side of the river, will be approached tomorrow or very soon, inshaAllah. Myself and our Finance Secretary, Dr. Tauseef, are in constant touch with her. The next amount will be wired tomorrow for her action on the other side of the river.

Since Dr. Hameeda lives in Mingora, she is an eyewitness to this disaster. I am uploading some of the videos sent by her. The items were purchased, packed, and distributed under her direct supervision, ensuring that the relief reaches the genuinely deserving people, inshaAllah.

We were able to provide this help only because of you—our FJiets and friends of AFJOG.

Thank you and JazakAllah.

Dr. Muneera Ahmad

𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩 𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐤𝐨𝐭, 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐪𝐩𝐮𝐫.

As we charted out our plan of action, our first move was to reach the areas where immediate rations and clothes were needed . That we have started from Ganda Singh border villages, and it’s still going on. In spite of all the hurdles—lack of manpower, limited experience of field work, and difficult approach to affected areas, our teams are doing a great job.

We are now starting our next action plan — that is 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐬. I had many options in mind, but to reach the targeted areas was a big question as we are not field workers. A week back, I was approached by Alkhidmat Trust requesting for medical cover in affected areas. So this is the turning point in our efforts. These people had marked the flood affected areas, and we are sending our medical teams under the banner of AFJOG.
Today on 22nd of October 2025, our first team left AMRC for Nawan kote, a village near Sharkpur.
Our team reached the camp area at about ten thirty, so the clinics started late .Patients were too many and the medicines finished at 1.15pm so the remaining patients were left.
They are requesting to continue tomorrow at the same place.
We will try to send double the amount of medicine. Clinics were smooth, and the patients were organised.
We will meet tomorrow
Inshaallah with more updates.Thank u.

AOA,
Today’s update -
Our team left our centre AMRC today , Sunday 21st of September, and headed towards Chanda wala and Mahi wala.
They carried dry ration, fodder, clothes, and shoes with them in packs. The van of AFJOG carried our staff and team headed by Miss Saadia (our administrator ) and truck load of these items to be distributed to far flung areas of Ganda Singh border.

Our team crossed River Sutleg with their stock by boats. After crossing the river, they walked through marshy area with their load to meet six stranded families in the village Beri pir. They distributed rations, clothes, and shoes to these families .
It was so difficult to walk through that they had to travel on cart, driven by bullock to reach the stranded families.

The story does not end here. On their way back,my best of best volunteers decided to reach another nearby village of eighteen families too. They had to hire a boat again to reach them. Each and every house was supplied with ration enough to last for one month for a normal family of eight people.

While coming back through all those hurdles, they came across a number of eight houses who did not have any adult male with them. So, eight bags of rations, clothes, and shoes were dropped at their doorstep by a reliable member of the community.

Finally, our brave, dedicated, and daring team has now come back safe and sound with flying colours.
I am so happy, grateful, and extremely humble. Thanks to Almighty, who made it possible to reach those people who were hardly approached by anybody.

Now, I would like to congratulate our donors that your donations have been successfully distributed.
My love and prayers for my team headed by Miss Saadia. JZK

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞

According to Director General of Punjab DMA,more than 4000 villages spread over 1.3 million acres of 41 million acres of farmland had been inundated by Sept 5 ,2025.

Punjab has roughly 30,000 villages
This means that 13 percent of villages and 3.6 percent of crop area have been damaged.
3.8 million people have been affected, and 2.26 million evacuated according to officials.Out of those evacuated only 2.5 percent of rescued have been kept in 602 Government run relief camps.
When the damage is so huge and colossal, all agencies have to join hands and should rise to the occasion.
AFJOG plays its part in helping the flood affected population with rations, medicines, and rehabilitation efforts.
