Simorgh – Women’s Resource & Publication Centre Started in 1985 as a part-time initiative and formalised as a full-time organisation in 1995, Simorgh is a non-government, non-profit, feminist/activist organisation. Simorgh’s main focus is research and dissemination of information that will enable women and men to challenge the dominance of ideas that support social and economic divisions on the ba

sis of gender, class, religion, race and nationality. Simorgh aims to redefine the culturally biased roles of men and women, and to promote not only equality between the genders, but to allow each individual to develop and find expression in his/her own right. Simorgh acknowledges the fact that while women’s oppression cuts across class, race, religion, age, nationality and the politics of economic arrangements, it cannot be separated from these issues. Thus, while recognising the interconnections between gender subordination and other forms of oppression, and taking into account the systemic discriminations in our own society, we do not discount the fact that income gains in the developed capitalist countries have resulted partly from the political manipulation and impoverishment of the Third World. Believing that cultural conditioning rather than biological differences defines the behavioural patterns of women and men, Simorgh is of the view that women must themselves play a more active role in bringing about the changes they seek. The first step in this direction would be to empower then with knowledge, skills, economic independence, and an awareness of the role that the dominant culture – in collusion with the divisions of class, religion and ethnicity - plays in keeping them in their present position. Simorgh’s position comprises the materialistic view of society, enlarged by feminism. However, we have consciously avoided putting ourselves into any existing category, as defined by Western feminists. We believe that we have to develop our own approach to our problems in accordance with our historical and socio-economic needs. Simorgh works with students, teachers, media professionals, NGOs and CBOs. Our main focus being research and dissemination of information, we strive to achieve our objective through publications, seminars, conferences, documentary films, gender awareness workshops, and, skill dissemination and income-generation projects. Simorgh has selected the following areas of focus in its agenda for change:

Women’s Rights as Human Rights
Violence against Women
Mediatic Representation of Women
Education and other Knowledge Systems
Religious Fundamentalisms and Women’s Oppression
Ideology and the Family
Women’s Histories and Women in History
Women’s Literature

Simorgh Women’s Resource and Publication Centre, in collaboration with Baba Guru Nanak University, held an advocacy campaign on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The session highlighted women’s empowerment through financial inclusion, encouraging young women to acquire new skills and stand up for their rights. It also emphasised the importance of recognising, addressing, and reporting cases of gender-based violence, domestic violence, and harassment through various channels, including Khidmat Centres, the 1043 helpline, and the Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW).

A storytelling session was also conducted, featuring real-life stories of women who faced GBV but persevered and are now successful entrepreneurs.

Special thanks to Dr Sumaira Naeem, Head of the Department of Chemistry, and other faculty members for encouraging open dialogue and fostering a deeper understanding of the need for collective action to promote women’s rights and safety.

🌟 Exposure Visit with Community Women – Learning, Growth & Empowerment 🌟

Simorgh organized a meaningful exposure visit for community women, aimed at broadening their horizons, strengthening their confidence, and introducing them to real opportunities in the digital and social sectors.

Our first stop was Arfa Kareem Tower, where the women visited NexSkills. The team provided an inspiring orientation on online business opportunities, digital skills, and the various training plans NexSkills offers. It was a powerful moment to see how quickly the women connected with the idea of becoming part of the digital economy.

We then visited the Police Khidmat Markaz (PKM) Liberty, where the participants were introduced to their complaint management system, working of Misaq Centre specifically for minorities, call centre operations for emergency callings, and the importance of Women Safety App for instant help mechanism. The visit helped them understand how institutions work, how services are delivered, and how women can access support mechanisms when needed.
To complete the learning journey, we finally took the group to the market for practical exposure—allowing them to observe pricing, customer interaction, product display, and overall market dynamics. This hands-on experience boosted their confidence and helped them relate their learning to real-life scenarios.
✨ Such exposure visits are a small step toward a much larger goal: empowering women with knowledge, skills, and the confidence to make informed decisions and seize new opportunities.

🌍 Advocacy Campaign on Gender-Based Violence & Climate Change 🌍

Organized by Simorgh in collaboration with Lahore College for Women University (LCWU)

Simorgh and LCWU’s Department of Gender and Development Studies jointly hosted an advocacy campaign highlighting how climate change exacerbates gender-based violence (GBV) among women and girls.

Held at the Student Service Center this event aimed to:

✔️ Contextualize the local landscape of GBV

✔️ Explore the intersection between climate change and gendered vulnerabilities

✔️ Discuss meaningful mitigation initiatives

One of the most impactful components of the campaign was the sharing of real-life field stories of GBV. Through storytelling, we shed light on different forms of violence and emphasized the need for collective action toward prevention and long-term solutions.

A big thank you uzma ashiq awan ,who contributed to this critical conversation. Together, we can work toward safer, more resilient communities for women and girls. 💜✨

🌟 Business Management Training by Simorgh Women's Resource and Publication Centre🌟
Simorgh, designed to support and empower community women with practical entrepreneurial skills. The training was interactive, reflective, and deeply impactful, delivered by C.O.O APWA.
🔹 Activity 1: Identifying Skills & Ambition
Participants began by writing about their personal skills, strengths, and ambitions. This self-reflection helped many women recognise their potential and envision themselves as future entrepreneurs.
🔹 Activity 2: Creating a Supportive Environment for Women Entrepreneurs
In a group activity, we discussed what an enabling domestic, social, and cultural atmosphere should look like for women who want to start a business. From shared responsibilities at home to community encouragement and social acceptance, the conversation highlighted the importance of collective support in women’s entrepreneurial journeys.
🔹 Activity 3: Development of a marketing strategy:
The participants were divided into groups and asked to develop a marketing strategy for a business venture of their choice. This turned into a fun and engaging activity that helped them learn how to highlight their business’s unique selling points (USP) and attract customers. Many groups even came up with creative slogans and catchy phrases to appeal to their target audience.
🔹 Activity 4: Hands-On Business Simulation
The most dynamic part of the training was the practical 1-week business simulation in which each day represented a key business function.
A mock production company and banking company were set up where women practised taking loans, purchasing materials, producing items based on given samples, selling products, and managing savings. This hands-on approach helped participants understand real business processes through experience rather than theory.

🎲 Sometimes a game says more than words.

These two specially designed Ludo boards tell powerful stories:

✨ Noor ki Jidojehad – A woman’s journey where education, family, and community support act as ladders helping her rise, while discrimination and bias appear as snakes dragging her down.

✨ Zara ka Safar – A transgender person’s struggle where resilience and acceptance push them forward, while stigma and exclusion pull them back.

Both journeys remind us that success is not just individual effort—it’s about the ladders society builds and the snakes it creates.

📌 When we choose to provide education, opportunities, and acceptance, we place ladders that lift people higher.

📌 When we allow stereotypes, discrimination, and exclusion, we create snakes that set people back.

These Ludo boards are more than games—they’re reflections of lived realities. They challenge us to ask:

👉 What ladders are we building for women and marginalized communities?

👉 And how can we remove the snakes that hold them back?

We are open to provide you our games based stories for awareness raising.

🏳️‍⚧️☕ Cups That Start Conversations. Messages That Matter.

We recently printed a set of cups carrying messages about:

💙 Transgender rights – because dignity and identity are non-negotiable.

📚 Right to education – because learning should never be a luxury.

🏠 Inheritance rights – because equality must extend into every part of life.

👧 Early marriage – because childhood should be for dreams, not duties.

Such cups spark awareness, starting conversations in cafeterias, at events, and around office tables. They’re a reminder that every space can be a space for advocacy — even the ones we least expect.

We believe that small actions can create ripple effects, and advocacy doesn’t always have to be loud to be powerful.

👉 If you or your organization care about these issues, consider simple, visible ways to spread awareness — print a message, host a dialogue, share a resource.

Make the invisible visible.

Let’s normalize talking about rights. Let’s make justice part of everyday life.
