KCF’s programs aim to alleviate rural poverty through income generation, and do so by fostering the growth of a favourable and equitable marketplace that is inclusive of skilled women from low-income communities. The approach is built on the premise that women are excluded from the formal economy and/or restricted to the bottom end of the value-chain due to supply and demand side constraints. The

solution lies in enhancing capacity on the production side (i.e. skill training, enhancing productivity and providing access & encouragement) while developing linkages to the marketplace (i.e. This brings about a natural alignment; allowing self-driven market forces to take over and create viable and sustainable economic opportunities for low-income women. The programs apply a push/pull strategy, pairing efforts to build skills, knowledge and productivity of poor women with strong market interaction, assisting in establishing market connections and providing business-related support. Combined, these efforts aim to improve the productivity of low-income and women’s equitable participation in sustainable development. With the demonstrable increase in household income, the balance of power shifts in the family, and women find themselves economically empowered. These poor women tend to reinvest their income in improved nutrition, health and education for household members, thus increasing living standards and reducing “non-income poverty” in the long term. A greater role of women in household consumption decisions leads to their inclusion in financial planning and visibility outside the home, redressing larger issues around gender equity and female social empowerment. KCF’s theory of change therefore is to educate women in life skills, enable them to earn and empower them to decide.

At University of the Punjab’s Department of Digital Media, Monitoring, Mentorship, and the Future of Digital Education came together through a high-level engagement by UN Women Pakistan and KOICA Pakistan Office / 파키스탄 사무소 at the Multi-Purpose Center for Women—established under the initiative and implemented by Kaarvan Crafts Foundation. The day evolved into a collaborative space where curriculum was shaped through student insights, program milestones were articulated by Amina Ali, and beneficiary journeys transformed data into meaning. Adding another layer to this exchange, rising young women-led businesses engaged with students and the wider team—sharing experiences, navigating challenges, and translating learning into practice. With the presence of Sodam Baek, Sidra Humayun, Zarene Zuberi, Prof. Savera Mujib Shami, and Sana Naveed Khan, the engagement reinforced a collective direction—where digital education is continuously shaped through listening, alignment, and lived realities.

Economic empowerment begins with awareness and access.

Through the WEE-2 Program, Kaarvan — in collaboration with UN Women Pakistan — conducted a connectivity session at the Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry Bahawalpur, in partnership with the Chamber’s Incubation Center and the Women Development Department.

During the session, 30 Women-Owned Businesses (WOBs) were successfully registered for a one-month Digital Marketing and Business Development training program—designed to strengthen digital presence, business communication, and market readiness.

As we continue our work across Bahawalpur, reaching over 1,000 individuals through community mapping, mobilization, and awareness-building, each session becomes a step toward increased financial confidence and informed decision-making.

Together, these efforts build not just skills but systems of support—creating lasting inclusion, empowerment, and financial resilience for all.

Home chefs stepped into the world of entrepreneurship with tools designed for scale and sustainability. Through in-person sessions on marketing, content creation, and social media, followed by online training in financial literacy and e-commerce, participants gained clarity on how to grow, price, promote, and manage their culinary businesses in the digital age.

These learnings are shaping more than menus—they’re building confidence, income, and long-term livelihoods.
