American Business Forum, in collaboration with LUMS, hosted an insightful session on Pakistan’s growing digital economy and the opportunities and challenges facing the country’s technology sector.
The discussion brought together industry leaders, academia, and key stakeholders to explore the evolving IT landscape, Pakistan’s potential as a global technology and IT outsourcing destination, and the steps needed to accelerate sustainable growth in the digital economy.
The session came at an important time as the government announced new measures aimed at ensuring zero internet outages for the IT industry. Ministry Of IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted the government’s commitment to providing priority connectivity to support IT exports, freelancers, software companies, and professionals working remotely for international clients.
Speakers emphasised that reliable and uninterrupted internet connectivity is no longer simply an infrastructure requirement it is fundamental to Pakistan’s global competitiveness. Stable connectivity is essential for meeting international Service Level Agreements (SLAs), maintaining client confidence, ensuring business continuity, and strengthening Pakistan’s reputation as a dependable destination for technology and outsourcing services.
The discussion also highlighted the critical role of academia in developing a future ready workforce, with institutions such as LUMS playing an important role in equipping students with the technical, entrepreneurial, and problem-solving skills required by the rapidly evolving global technology industry.
The event reinforced the importance of stronger collaboration between government, industry, and academia to address infrastructure gaps, develop skilled talent, strengthen the digital ecosystem, and create an environment that enables technology companies and entrepreneurs to scale.
