Apply for the GW*PA Steering Committee

UN-Habitat's GW*PA is inviting applications for available seats on its Steering Committee – an opportunity for members to help shape the Alliance’s future and represent the voice of the membership.

The Steering Committee provides strategic direction to the GW*PA Secretariat, reviews progress and reflects the needs and perspectives of diverse constituencies across the Alliance. Members serve a four-year mandate and help ensure balanced, global representation across stakeholder groups. Only institutional members are eligible to vote and serve.

Candidatures are open until 8 April 2026. Electronic voting will take place from 10 to 19 April 2026, ahead of the GW*PA Assembly in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 18 May 2026.

This is a chance to contribute to stronger governance for GW*PA and to help guide the Alliance’s work in support of stronger water and sanitation utilities worldwide.

On 25 February 2026, a weekly progress review meeting was convened at the Secretariat Office of the Pakistan Water Operators Network (PWON). The meeting was chaired by Mr. Syed Zahid Aziz, Chairman Pakistan Water Operators Network (PWON) and MD PMDFC with team PWON to review the organization’s overall progress and strategic direction.
During the session,, the team presented detailed updates on ongoing tasks and key activities. They briefed the Chairman on current initiatives, milestones achieved and areas requiring further attention.
The Chairman appreciated the PWON team for their strong performance, commitment and effective teamwork. The Chairman also outlined future goals for PWON.
The PWON team comprised Ms. Tahirah Jabeen (National Coordinator), Mr. Shahid Ibrahim (PO-IT), Mr. Qasim (PO-IS), Mr. Umair Butt (DPO-HR), and Mr. M. Ali M***i (DM-ID).

On 15th Jan, 2026, an online EU-W*P DEV Mission (PAK–PT W*P) information session was conducted by GW*PA . This online session briefly explained about the partners and their key responsibilities. PWON will act as additional partner in this DEV Mission.This online session was attended by Muhammad Ali M***i (DM-ID) and Umair Butt (DPO-HR) from PWON.

A meeting was held at Pakistan Water Operators Network (PWON) Secretariat Office chaired by National Coordinator PWON, with the representative of AGAHE Mr. Muhammad Waqas Tahir (Manager WASH, AGAHE)
Mr. Waqas Tahir discussed strengthening the PWON through alignment with global forums and networks. He expressed AGAHE’s interest in strengthening PWON’s member utilities through workshops, technical trainings, studies and research initiatives.
During the meeting, he also suggested expanding PWON’s scope to enhance the sector by including not only water and sanitation utilities but also related areas such as climate change resilience initiatives and the Suthra Punjab Program etc
AGAHE expressed its readiness to support PWON in all these initiatives and future collaborative efforts.
AGAHE also agreed to finance and support technical session/ capacity building workshop in the mid-February in collaboration with WHH.
