LCWU Faculty Certified as QPR Su***de Prevention Trainers

In a significant step toward strengthening student mental health support, Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam (PhD Clinical Psychology), Dr. Maryam Gul (PhD Clinical Psychology), and Ms. Zunaira Shabbir (MS Clinical Psychology) from the Department of Applied Psychology, LCWU, successfully completed the internationally recognized QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Su***de Prevention Train-the-Trainer Program and earned certification as QPR Su***de Prevention Trainers.

This highly specialized training, offered to a select group of approximately 30 professionals , equips participants with evidence-based skills to recognize warning signs of su***de, intervene effectively, and facilitate timely referrals for professional support.

The training was conducted by Prof. Dr. Nazish Imran and Prof. Dr. Ali Madeeh Hashmi, while Prof. Dr. Ayesha Rasheed, Executive Director, Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH), appreciated the participants’ commitment to advancing mental health and su***de prevention efforts.

We are thrilled to share a major milestone! Dr. Saima Eman, Assistant Professor and the new member/ mentor of the Equality Diversity Society mentored by society Founder Professor Dr. Amina Muazzam), has successfully secured prestigious foreign funding from the American Psychological Association (APA)!

Dr. Eman’s request for accessibility-related professional development funds has been officially approved by the APA's Disability Mentoring Program.
This funding will be utilized to conduct a highly impactful awareness workshop for LCWU students and staff focusing on ableism and disability, tackling critical accessibility issues on campus.

On 22nd April at the One Day Conference on “Organizational Psychology and the Human Side of Work: Humanizing HR Bridging Policy and People” organized by the Department of Applied Psychology, LCWU, it was an honor to have Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam deliver a keynote speech titled “Empathy at Workplace.”

Her talk highlighted the critical importance of empathy in fostering supportive, ethical, and productive work environments. The keynote was very well received by participants, delegates, students, and fellow colleagues, making it a truly impactful and engaging session.

Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam Highlights a Critical Social Dilemma: “Log Kya Kahenge?”

Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam, Chairperson, Department of Applied Psychology, brought attention to a deeply rooted social issue “Log kya kahenge” in a recent TV program . She discussed how the need for social approval often influences individuals’ life choices, impacting their careers, relationships, and overall well-being.

The video sparked significant public interest and engagement, drawing responses and calls from individuals who resonated with the message. , which we will share one by one. Many shared how the fear of societal judgment has shaped their personal decisions and emotional health.

Prof. Muazzam emphasized the importance of shifting from approval seeking behaviors to self-respect and self awareness, encouraging individuals to prioritize their mental wellbeing over societal pressures.

On 31st March Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam, Chairperson, Department of Applied Psychology and Director, Women Institute for Leadership and Learning and focal person Autism resource center participated in a meaningful and impactful discussion at IMPACT 1999, a specialized institution working with children on the autism spectrum and other developmental needs.

The discussion focused on “The Impact of Abrupt and Prolonged School Closures on Student Academic and Personality Development.” During the discussion, Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam highlighted a critical concern regarding vulnerable populations. She emphasized:

“For children belonging to special and vulnerable groups, school closures are not merely a disruption in education—they represent a profound and total disconnect from structure, support systems, and developmental continuity.”

Her insights underscored the urgent need for targeted interventions and sustained support mechanisms to safeguard the psychological well-being and developmental progress of these children.

Such discussions reflect a growing commitment within Pakistan’s academic and professional community to address the long-term impact of educational disruptions, particularly for those most at risk.

The Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Society is proud to share that our Founder, Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam, an eminent psychologist, senior academic leader, and relationship counselor, is contesting the Pakistan Psychological Association (PPA) Elections with the Trusted Psychologists Panel for the position of Additional Secretary General.

With over 20 years of dedicated service to the field of psychology, Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam has contributed significantly to teaching, research, professional training, and mental health advocacy in Pakistan. She has also served the psychology community as an Executive Member of PPA for the past two years, actively supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening professional networks, capacity building, and visibility of psychology nationwide.

Her contributions to the discipline and the professional community are widely recognized.
