1. Why Pakistan Needs New Provinces:
This topic has become especially relevant in August 2026. There is currently serious discussion about creating new provinces or administrative units, although the exact number and boundaries remain unsettled.
Main points to explore
1. Population has grown enormously:
Pakistan still has four main provinces despite having a much larger population and increasingly complex administrative needs. Supporters argue that smaller provinces could bring government closer to ordinary citizens.
2. Better governance and public services:
A smaller administrative unit could potentially make it easier to manage education, healthcare, policing, roads and other public services.
3. Punjab and the question of South Punjab:
Punjab's size makes it central to the debate. Ideas have included dividing Punjab into multiple provinces, including proposals involving South Punjab and Bahawalpur.
4. Sindh, Karachi and Balochistan:
The debate also raises questions about Karachi's administrative status and whether Balochistan should be divided into smaller units. One current proposal reportedly discusses three Punjab units, two Balochistan units and possible separate arrangements for Karachi and Gwadar.
5. Hazara and KP:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presents a more complicated question because of the former FATA merger and differing regional identities. A proposal discussed in current reporting includes separate Pakhtun and Hazara regions.
The big question:
Creating provinces does not automatically solve bad governance. Critics argue that Pakistan could instead strengthen local governments, devolve money and authority directly to districts, and improve institutions. A recent national debate specifically considered new provinces alongside stronger local governments and fiscal devolution.

2. Why Saudi Arabia Removed Anti-Israel Content From Its Curriculum
This is a very current and sensitive topic. A July 2026 review of Saudi textbooks found continuing changes in how Israel, Zionism and the Palestinian issue are presented. The review examined 136 textbooks from the 2024–25 and 2025–26 academic years.
Reports have highlighted the removal or modification of some strongly anti-Israel language. For example, reporting on the curriculum review says the phrase “the Muslims will never give up Jerusalem” was removed from newer textbooks.
Why would Saudi Arabia make these changes?
1. Vision 2030 and educational reform
Saudi Arabia has been transforming its education system as part of its broader modernization agenda. The curriculum review describes the changes as part of this wider reform.
2. A shift toward moderation
Saudi educational reforms have increasingly emphasized tolerance, coexistence and reducing language considered inflammatory or extremist.
3. Changing Saudi foreign policy
The curriculum debate is also connected to Saudi Arabia's evolving diplomatic approach toward Israel. Riyadh has historically supported the Palestinian cause, but its diplomatic strategy has become more pragmatic and closely connected to regional and international negotiations.
4. Palestine remains in the curriculum—but the presentation is changing
It would be misleading to say that Saudi Arabia has simply “removed Palestine.” The evidence indicates that references to Palestine and Israel remain, but some language, maps and descriptions have been changed. For example, the 2026 review notes a Grade 9 map that depicts the territory as Palestine without identifying Israel as a sovereign state.
