Honesty in commercial/business dealings is more strictly enjoined by Islam than by any other religion. It is because Islam is a religion which regulates and directs life in all its aspects.
"Halal income" means what people earn under the conditions which prescribed by Islamic rule or law. And Islam has extensive knowledge about the concept of halal and Haram means of provisions of Muslim.
It is stated that people nowadays are that much apprehensive about their worldly goals that they forget the source of income, either it's halal or Haram.
The Prophet (PBUH ) said:
“A time will come upon the people when they will not care as to how he gets his money whether legally or illegally.”
[Bukhari]
A momin among us believe that just as nasty food spolis our physical health, similarly. food earned through unlawful means spoils our spiritual and moral health.
A careful study of "Kitab al-Buyu`" (the book pertaining to business transactions) will reveal the fact that the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) based business dealings strictly on truth and justice.
It is important to note that Islam does not discourage us from seeking wealth or permissible pleasure, but balance and moderation is necessary.
The Qur’an and Sunnah are full of guidance and warnings about greed...
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
“Beware of greed, for it was only greed that destroyed those before you".
He also knows about the nature/Fitrah of men, As
The Prophet ﷺ said,
“If the son of Adam had two valleys full of wealth, here would desire a third. Nothing will fill his belly but the dust of the grave, yet Allah relents to those who repent.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6436
This hadith is a firm reminder that greed is insatiable. If you give in to any type of greed, it can consume you. There is no amount of wealth, possessions, fame, accomplishments, or sexual adventures that can satisfy the greedy soul.
Greed is the servant of the devil." (Ibn Taymiyyah)
The only way to fight it is to focus on purifying our souls. Tazkiya al-Nafs (purifying soul) is an important part of Islam and every Muslim must practice daily.
