Counterfeit products have become a global menace and are manufactured and marketed with only one objective in mind, to cut costs by ignoring quality and safety, cheat consumers and make unlawful profits. And if we allow this illegal business to carry on unchecked, then we too are equally guilty of this crime. Counterfeits, Fakes, Piracy, Call it what you will, these products are manufactured illegally without a trademark owner's consent, with the intent to copy a genuine brand and deceive the consumer. In virtually every product category, criminals are exploiting consumers and supplying cheap, illegal counterfeits that pose serious consequences to society. There is a critical need to combat counterfeiting and piracies, which have also been found, linked to public safety issues. Counterfeiting is particularly dangerous because consumption of non-standard or low quality edibles, food items, medicines and other Products, may not only cause serious health ailments or be life-threatening but causing Heavy losses to our industry and destroying our national Economy. Unfortunately the law enforcement agencies do not have adequate knowledge to distinguish between the fake and genuine products. The proliferation of fake and modified goods is not only hurting the consumers and genuine producers of goods, the menace is also adversely affecting the national economy, government revenues and thereby public-sector socio-economic programmes. Their is need for counterfeit specific laws and courts in Pakistan to combat the menace. Anti Counterfeiting Group of Pakistan ACGP encourage, Traders, Producers, Manufacturers and Consumers to take up this cause and be as the vigilant citizens of the country are an important force to fight this socio-economic menace and to take a pledge that they would not buy fake and smuggled goods”.
