Prof. Dr. Arif Khan Saqi was travelling to the University in an online transport service when his vehicle was hit by a black Toyota Revo Double Cabin allegedly driven by Hunain, the son of the owner of Sindh Green Hotel.
Following the incident, an argument took place, after which the hotel owner’s guards allegedly tortured Prof. Dr. Arif Khan Saqi and the driver. They then allegedly dragged both of them to their office at Sindh Green Hotel, where the alleged torture and harassment continued.
Following this incident, protests have started across the city and at the University of Karachi. Students are demanding immediate legal action by the police against everyone involved in the alleged kidnapping, harassment, intimidation, torture, and assault of a respected member of society who has dedicated his career to education and served as Chairperson of the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Karachi.
Therefore, ATI strongly condemns this alleged act of violence and stands firmly with our respected teacher. We demand a fair, transparent, and immediate investigation and appropriate legal action against all those found responsible.
