“A New Chapter in Hemophilia Care: Sindh to Expand Diagnosis, Awareness and Treatment Through District Outreach”
Karachi: In a significant step toward improving healthcare services for people living with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders, a delegation from the Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi Pakistan (HWSK) met with Dr. DureNaz Jamal, Secretary, SINDH Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) Sindh Health Department, to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening diagnosis, awareness, and access to treatment across Sindh.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed plans for the District-Level Hemophilia Outreach Camps & Awareness Drive, an initiative designed to establish a provincial baseline by identifying undiagnosed hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and other rare bleeding disorder patients, assessing their quality of life (QoL) as per World Federation of Hemophilia guidelines, and evaluating healthcare professionals and community awareness and knowledge regarding hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. The outreach program will also strengthen early diagnosis, patient registration, referral pathways, and linkage to specialized care.
The discussions further focused on expanding comprehensive hemophilia treatment services to the upper and northern regions of Sindh through the establishment of Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) in public sector hospitals. The proposed expansion reflects the shared commitment of the Sindh Government and HWSK to ensure that patients, regardless of their geographical location, have equitable access to quality diagnosis, lifesaving treatment, and multidisciplinary care.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership and highlighted a common vision of building a sustainable, accessible, and integrated hemophilia care network throughout the province.
