Nasim Educational Society was established in 1983 with the unshakable determination to provide standard education to low income group and to set the modern approach of life through education which is very clear from our vision which states that, “Education is the most effective tool to end poverty, build people’s personality and to make a more just society”. The specific field of operation of Nasi
m Educational Society is education (formal and non formal. Vocational training, health assistance and human rights (Women & Children) are also some of the main concerns of Nasim Educational Society. In the flood disaster of 2010, NES distributed ration, clothes and other necessities of life to the IDPs. Furthermore, NES also established a Non Formal Education (NFE) Center at flood relief camps at super highway which served as a community center for IDP women where literacy programme had been arranged alongwith vocational programme. Moreover, health awareness and basic norms of cultural behaviour were also a part of this programme. The most important of our projects was the special classes of the young flood victims which continued up till 2012. In the flood disaster of 2010, when the whole country was making donations for the survival of the flood victims, Nasim Educational Society thought about the mental condition of the children who were affected by the flood. So, to bring them to the normal frame of life, Nasim Educational Society started bringing them to School of Britainnica’s Surjani Campus where they were given informal education and activities such as painting, coloring and games. These activities showed marked improvement in these children. As these young flood victims came from the relief camps of Super Highway, their hygienic conditions were very poor. In fact, many of the children were suffering from skin diseases. To overcome this problem, NES managed to start regular doctor check-up and bath session. The young flood victims took bath and dressed in their respective uniforms before they would enter into the classrooms. After the class, school provided them with lunch which was composed of all the nutrients required for a balanced diet. NES provided free transport, education and lunch to these young flood victims so that they forget the disaster which they had gone through at such a tender age. NES ended this project with the productive results in the form of well groomed and confident children. Providing basic education to the lower income group is also our main concern. In this regard Surjani is our focal point where NES has established double story building on 1000 sq. yard
fully equipped with all modern facilities and teaching aids. Surjani is an area where a huge population is living in very poor conditions without school facility from the Government. As inflation, unemployment and poverty are prevailing in this area, it is quite obvious that the parents will not be able to share the expenses of education and they will stop the schooling of their children and will prefer to prepare their children for private examinations. In such a situation there could be three possibilities:
1-The children will become a part of child labor.
2-The children will pass their time aimlessly and will become a part of street crimes.
3-The children will become a part of the insitutions which promote intolerance, sectarianism and fanatanicism. Hence, keeping in view all these dangerous possibilities, education is being provided at School of Britainnica’s Surjani Campus at nominal fees. Moreover, in the academic year of 2013-14, we enrolled 134 students of Pehalwan Goath in our 2nd campus of Gulistan-e-Jouhar. Here free transportation and education is provided to them. These children and their families were the victims of different social evils, not only are these children provided with education but special counseling sessions have also been arranged in the school for them. The most recent of our projects is the education of dropout girls. Girls and women were enrolled in school who could not complete and continue their education due to various different reasons. This project is not only an educational one but it will also provide vocational training . This project is crucial in getting drop out women and girls back to classrooms which will help them get awarness and retain the lost confidence along with skill and education. The activities provided by this project will create an atmosphere of positivity in the society. The project is designed for 200 drop out women(beneficiaries). In the three year duration of the project, the women will learn languages (Urdu, English and Sindhi), basic Mathematics along with skill development classes where they are given skills to repair mobile phones, computer and other electronic appliances. As a result of this project, women would be educated, empowered and socially aware. During the course of this project these women would develop positive attitude which would put an end to prevailing violence especially domestic violence. References:
