"Most of the barriers persons with disabilities face were built by someone. Which means they can be taken down.
That was the spirit at the Government Special Education and Rehabilitation Complex, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, marked the symbolic inauguration of 49 Digital Classrooms, 20 Satellite Schools across Sindh, and the Sign Language Teachers' Training Programme. His message was simple: the goal is ""an environment where no one is disabled.""
Each of these takes a barrier down: a classroom every child can learn in, a school within reach, a teacher who speaks their language. Congratulations to the Sindh Government, Department Of Empowerment Of Person With Disabilities and Deaf Reach on a milestone that brings that goal closer for children across the province.
NOWPDP shares that goal and works toward it alongside the Government of Sindh. Our partnership with DEPD has reached more than 70,000 persons with disabilities across every division of Sindh. Its next step is CEDI Korangi, the accessible campus we are building together, where rehabilitation, education, skills training, manufacturing and employers come together. The Government of Sindh's Inclusive City carries the same idea further, from one campus to an entire city.
Classroom by classroom, campus by campus, city by city, those barriers are coming down. From inclusion to independence.

Today, on International Identity Day, we join the global call for legal identity for all by 2030, a promise the world made through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Like a shadow, identity should never leave a person's side. It is what allows every person to be seen, counted, and included wherever they go. Yet in Pakistan, only under one million persons with disabilities are registered, leaving most cut off from the rights and support meant for them.

NOWPDP's Shanakht One-Window Special CNIC Camps are held in collaboration with NADRA and provincial health and disability departments, bringing the entire process together under one roof. With their support, a process that usually takes multiple steps and 12 to 16 weeks is completed in a single day.

Each identity card is a first step: to be recognised, then included, then independent. No one should be left without their shadow.

You read this in seconds. For millions of persons with disabilities in Pakistan, getting the chance to learn to read is still a privilege.
This International Literacy Day, we are asking a simple question: who gets the chance to learn?
The answer should not depend on disability. Yet when education systems are not designed for everyone, exclusion becomes the barrier—not ability.
Literacy opens the door to learning, earning, participating, and financial empowerment. It is time we make sure everyone gets the key, because inclusion leads to independence.
