World Environment Day 2026 Celebrated in Karachi with a Call for Urgent Climate Action
Karachi, June 5, 2026: The PIA Boys Scouts Association, in collaboration with the Services for Environment and Mangrove Protection (SEMP) and the United Nations Association of Pakistan (UNAP), celebrated World Environment Day 2026 on Friday, June 5, 2026, at PIA Model Higher Secondary School, Karachi, a branch of the PIA Boys Scouts Association.
The event was organized under the theme "Urgent Climate Action" to raise awareness about environmental challenges and encourage collective efforts toward a sustainable future.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a flag hoisting ceremony. A comprehensive program was arranged to educate and engage students, scouts, and participants on environmental issues. Activities included a multimedia presentation on environmental awareness, informative presentations by scouts and students of PIA Model School, and a display of charts and speeches highlighting the significance of climate action and environmental stewardship.
A special tree plantation drive was also conducted in the presence of distinguished guests, emphasizing the importance of afforestation and ecosystem restoration in combating climate change.
The event was graciously hosted by Mr. Shoaib Dahri, General Manager PIA & Provincial Commissioner PIA Boy Scouts along with his dedicated team, including Syed Javed Raza Secretary PIA BSA, Ms. Samra Kanwal Principal PIA Model School, Ms. Najma Gulzar Manager PIA, Mr. Abdul Qudoos GM Marketing Gobis Paint and other members of the organizing committee, whose efforts ensured the successful conduct of the program.
Dr. Kanwal Nazim, President of SEMP, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Muhammad Uzair Khan, GM SEMP (Honorary) was also present with his team, Addressing the participants, Dr. Kanwal Nazim emphasized the urgent need for climate action, environmental conservation, and community participation in protecting natural resources for future generations.
Ms. Saima Khan Sr. Consultant for Sustainable Development UNAP attended the event as the Guest of Honour and appreciated the efforts of the organizers in promoting environmental awareness among youth and students.
A large number of students, scouts, officials from PIA, educators, and representatives of various organizations participated in the event. The gathering reaffirmed the importance of environmental responsibility and highlighted the crucial role of young people in addressing climate challenges.
Speaking on the occasion, the organizers stressed that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and called upon citizens, especially the younger generation, to actively contribute towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Pakistan.
The organizers expressed their commitment to continuing environmental education, conservation initiatives, and community engagement programs aimed at building a greener and climate-resilient future.
