Supreme Court Justice Ayesha A. Malik has been honored with the prestigious Justitia Award 2026 at the 7th International Women in Law Conference in Vienna, Austria. The award recognizes her contributions to human rights and women's participation in the legal profession.

She also addressed the University of Vienna's Faculty of Law on “Roadmap to Equality and Women’s Rights in Practice,” highlighting the importance of turning legal equality into meaningful change in women's everyday lives.

Veteran journalist Khursheed Hyder appreciates the dedicated efforts of Fauzia Shaheen and the Women Media Center in empowering young women journalists and preparing them for the realities of the field.

For more than 20 years, WMC has worked to bridge the gap between education and practical journalism by helping women understand different beats, develop professional skills, and learn how to confidently work in the field.

Khursheed Hyder highlights, universities must go beyond theory and equip students with the practical skills they need to succeed in professional journalism. Learning should begin before entering the newsroom, not only after getting a job.

Dr-Huma Sadaf, Senior News Editor at Pakistan Television News, shares her journey in journalism and her perspective on women’s representation in decision-making roles.

Drawing on her experience in newspapers, private television, digital journalism, and academia, Dr. Huma highlights the societal barriers that often prevent educated women from pursuing their professional careers. With more than three decades of experience in journalism, Farzana Chaudhry, former journalist at Nawa-i-Waqt, shares her powerful journey of breaking barriers and advocating for women’s leadership in media.

From becoming the first woman to contest major elections at the Lahore Press Club to serving as its Vice President, Farzana Chaudhry has consistently challenged traditional barriers and worked to create greater opportunities for women journalists. She reflects on the challenges she faced throughout her career, including resistance and negative attitudes, but turned those obstacles into motivation to prove her capabilities. Her journey demonstrates that determination, hard work, and self-reliance can transform barriers into stepping stones.

She also highlights the importance of women having a stronger voice in decision-making, press clubs, professional forums, and media organizations. The goal is not simply representation, but meaningful participation, leadership, and the ability to shape decisions that affect women journalists.

In this impactful series of Women in Press Clubs & Unions, javeria siddique, a prominent columnist, photographer, and Regional Coordinator for the IFJ Asia-Pacific region shares her journey of breaking stereotypes in press clubs and advocating for female leadership in media trade unions.

Sharing her journey from breaking barriers at the National Press Club to winning the IFJ election, she emphasizes that women constitute half the population and must not be excluded from policy and decision-making roles. She advocates for local media unions to adopt IFJ’s 50% gender representation model to empower female journalists across Pakistan.
