Hello everyone, SLT here. Parents often ask what books they should be reading to their children and I always say pick authors who use lots of repetition. Repetition is a fantastic way to learn language. After a few weeks of reading the same book (at bedtime or any other time you fancy), your child will be retelling the story while as he turns the pages.

Some of my favorite authors for little ones are Eric Carle, Julia Donaldson and Judith Kerr.

I also prefer diving into one author and then moving onto another one. This makes the books feel familiar.

Which book does your child enjoy?

Our kids love Julia Donaldson.

Hello everyone, SLP here. I love magnetic tiles because they’re a speech therapy session in disguise! How fun to know that you can be working on language without your little one feeling like it’s “work”.

Verbs, core words, following directions, spatial concepts... it’s all hiding in there.

SLPs, save this for your next session. Parents, try these at home and watch how much language comes out once it’s something your kid actually enjoys.

And if you’ve noticed your little one could use a bit more support with talking, that’s usually worth a conversation. No pressure, we’re just here if you want to chat.

What would you target first? 👇

Some days our whole session is just bubbles, balloons, and a marble run. 🫧

And honestly, that’s the point. Kids don’t build language from worksheets. They build it from play, from someone following their lead, from “more,” “pop,” “go” happening a hundred times a day without anyone forcing it.

Five we reach for again and again:
🫧 Bubbles
🎈 Balloons
🔵 Marble run
🔺 Magnetic tiles
🎶 Maracas

If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering “is this normal” while watching your little one play or talk, you’re not alone. Usually the answer is easier than parents expect. We’re just a message away if you ever want to talk it through, no pressure, just a conversation.

We covered language milestones for ages 2 to 5, social skill markers to watch for, and simple everyday strategies like modeling language in short, repeated phrases to help kids build their vocabulary.

What stood out most was the teachers’ energy. Real questions, real kids in mind, and a genuine eagerness to support every child a little better. This is why we love what we do. 🌱

If you’re a teacher noticing something in your classroom, or a parent with a question about your child’s speech and language, we’re always here to talk. No pressure, just support. 💬

What an honor it was to lead a “workshop” (in quotation marks, because it didn’t feel like one) for the teachers at Indus Academy’s Junior section. It turned into something better — a genuine discussion.

We covered expressive and receptive language, early literacy, and social skills — what’s typical at different ages, red flags to watch for, and when to loop in parents. But what made it special were the teachers themselves: curious, engaged, and full of real questions about real students.

We ended up going beyond the agenda entirely, because the teachers knew exactly what they needed. It’s a reminder that early identification and simple, consistent strategies can make a real difference in a child’s communication development.

If you’re an educator or parent curious about speech and language support, our doors are always open.

Trouble with verbal reasoning e.g. “what do you do if you’re cold?”

Mixes up pronouns e.g. “give it to him” isn’t clicking

Confuses prepositions e.g. can’t find the toy that’s “behind” or “between”

Every kid develops differently, and one sign alone isn’t a red flag. But if a few of these sound familiar, it’s always okay to ask your pediatrician or an SLP for a quick check-in. Early support only helps.

📌 Save this for later

Talking doesn’t come out of nowhere, it’s built on understanding first. So when we think about whether a 24-month-old might need a speech and language evaluation, we’re not looking for one missed skill. We’re looking at patterns and how often and how consistently your child understands words and directions, not just whether they can do it once.

⚠️ This post isn’t a diagnosis. It’s here to help you notice patterns worth paying attention to so you can decide if it’s worth asking a professional.

If this feels familiar, our team at Let’s Talk Speech & Language Therapy is here to help you figure out the next step.

Is your 2-year-old using 50+ words and starting to combine them? (“more milk,” “go bye-bye”)

If not yet — that’s okay. But it’s worth a look. 👀

About 1 in 3 late talkers don’t catch up on their own. An evaluation isn’t a diagnosis — it’s just information, and the earlier you have it, the more options you have.

No pressure, just answers.

MYTH: “Late talkers just need more time.” 🚫

Here’s the truth, straight from the research 👇 Singleton (2018). Waiting can mean missing the most sensitive window for language development and that many late talkers don’t simply catch up on their own.

You don’t need a referral or a diagnosis to seek an evaluation. If you’re concerned, that’s reason enough. 💛

Save this for a parent who needs to hear it.
