Community development Program is yet another focus of Women Development Foundation. WDFP empowers the society by strengthening the community through following initiatives. Series of Peace Conferences:
After the successful event of Lyari Peace Conference, held in the month of April 2014, WDFP has organized 11 more conferences in each Union Council of Lyari Town. These activities celebrated Lyari’s multifaceted culture, rich history, customs and traditions, engaged Youth in a discourse around the currents issues that threaten the very fabric of this town. These conferences were successful in creating a counter narrative, promoting a sense of unity among Lyariites and instilling hopes among the youth in particular for a better future. GEP Project: Promoting Improved Livelihood for Informal Sector Workers
WDFP is promoting Gender Equity by empowering women economically, socially, culturally and legally to eliminate all sorts of exploitation against women in our society. This project aims to encourage women of informal sectors to develop their livings. The core objectives of this project are; Identification and mobilization of Women Home Based Workers specifically, craftswomen and artisans; Skill development of groups of home based workers to make their products market competitive; Establishment of trade facilitation and communication center at the district level to act as marketing/ sales communication point for the women home base workers. It is expected to prosper women friendly and gender balanced society in Pakistan by enabling women home based workers to participate in the development of national economy. Lyari Film Festival:
WDFP has organized first ever four days long Lyari Film Festival (LFF), featuring young community based film makers to showcase more than 40 short films, feature films and documentaries. Thereby provided youth with a platform to showcase their talent and promoted them as role models and activists. This film festival has also provided opportunity to Lyari’ites to come together, interact and celebrate the success and achievements of young film makers who are the future of this community.
