We had an intimate book donation ceremony on May 20, 2024 at Habib University. The event was attended by SMF volunteers and the Habib University community.

Dr. Nauman Naqvi, Acting Dean, Founding Faculty School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Associate Professor at HU, shared his memories of Sabeen and noted how her books reflect her varied interests.

Yousuf Kerai, Associate Professor at HU, reflected on how Sabeen created safe spaces for creative people in Karachi. Yousuf Kerai held tabla classes at T2F for several years.

Chand Singhara, Manager of the Music Room, shared his memories of working with Sabeen, and the bond they developed over time. Sabeen referred to Chand as the, "glue," of T2F.

HU community members also shared their memories and welcomed Sabeen’s books into the library.

Thanks to Adeeba Naz at HU for helping set up the donation.

TO SABEEN, WITH LOVE
24 April 2024

This sticker is from Pakistan’s first civic hackathon, which was hosted in 2013 by T2F. One hackathon activity involved dreaming up what one wanted in one’s neighbourhood, and writing it down on these stickers. Participants then got together to work out ways to implement their visions. At the end of the hackathon, there were rows and rows of stickers filled with these visions.

We’re sharing the sticker that Sabeen filled out. She kept it on her whiteboard right up until April 24, 2015.

Over the years of T2F 2.0, Sabeen often thought of ways to engage with and contribute to the neighbourhood. On this April 24, 2024, join us in cleaning up the area around T2F and planting some new vegetation. Please bring your cap and drinking water with you. If you are able to, please also bring a broom, a small spade, and a bucket. Let’s add some peace, love, and flowers to the neighbourhood.

This activity will run from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and is part of our celebration of Sabeen Mahmud’s life and legacy on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 at .

Please register for the event, and bring your writing materials with you. There are only 20 spots available. The link to the registration form is: https://forms.gle/1yaKPJ3YuVGjiwut8

About the event:
An Aao Suno session with Sadia Khatri exploring our inner life through the journal. We will explore the ways the journal can be a creative site for process and play; and a cathartic space to map our emotions. We will learn about ways we can build a journaling practice (regular or irregular!), to ground our bodies and minds. We will think about the journal as a mirror or container to reflect/hold our changing perception about the world and ourselves.

About the facilitator:
Sadia Khatri is a writer, teacher, and filmmaker. She writes fiction and nonfiction, often about cities, dreams, gender, and faith. She is interested in pedagogical models outside of institutions, and teaches individually and collaboratively. Sadia is archiving and filming Sufi and Bhakti poetry in Sindh with Amrit Pyala.
