The Burns Centre is established at the Jubilee Block, Civil Hospital under the patronage of a philan

Previously the Burns Ward of the Civil Hospital Karachi was the only burns unit in Pakistan. It used to provide treatment to patients from Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighbouring countries. The department manages approximately 20,000 patients per year, with an average of around 500 to 600 in-patients with severe burns, annually. Unfortunately with the alarming rise in cases of burns, the Burns Ward was insufficient to fulfill all the requirements and there was the urgent need to upgrade the Burns Unit into a full-fledged Burns Care Centre and Centre of Excellence. Thus to bring hope for the burn patients, the Burns Centre has now been relocated at the more spacious heritage protected building; Jubilee Block within the Civil Hospital Karachi.

Supporting Patient Mobility 🤝

Strengthening Burn Rehabilitation Expertise 🌍

Dr. Sandhiya Dhodheja, Physiotherapist at Friends of Burns Centre (FOBC), attended a five-day Advanced Burn Rehabilitation Training organised by Interburns in Dodoma, Tanzania. The training covered multidisciplinary burn rehabilitation, wound assessment, respiratory management, post-operative care, hand rehabilitation, splinting, scar management, and disability prevention—strengthening her skills and supporting FOBC’s commitment to specialised burn rehabilitation and improved patient outcomes.

A burn injury may not always appear as serious as it actually is. Even when a patient seems stable initially, complications can develop over the following days and may cause the condition to worsen.

This is why timely medical assessment, proper treatment, and continuous monitoring are essential for every burn patient.

Never underestimate a burn. Early care can make a difference.
