HOPE Pakistan

HOPE Pakistan HOPE is dedicated to Poverty Alleviation throughout Pakistan. Impact: 1,000,000 Needy/Year

Since 1997, our grassroots efforts span Healthcare, Education, Vocational Training, Clean Water, Food Security, Disaster Relief, Ramadan Outreach, and Qurbani. Health Oriented Preventive Education (HOPE) was the inspiration of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, a pediatrician by profession who helped eradicate polio from Pakistan in the early stages of her career. In 1997, while working in Karachi’s governme

nt-sponsored hospital for the needy, Civil Hospital (where she currently still practices), Dr. Mubina thought of a vision for the betterment of the citizens of her country. She and a small band of volunteers joined forces to establish HOPE as a nonprofit governmental organization in Pakistan. Due to Dr. Mubina's medical background, HOPE's initial objective was to provide the poor with better access to medical centers and hospitals. In a country grappling with basic issues such as lack of access to clean drinking water, poor maternal and infant health, malnutrition in children, prevention and treatment of diseases such as malaria, cholera, and tuberculosis, it already seemed as though HOPE had enough of a challenge on its hands. But soon Dr. Mubina realized that the cornerstone of a productive and forward-thinking community relies on both a healthy body and healthy mind. She honed her vision to an integrative approach that was twofold: health and education. Today, HOPE has evolved to an organization that prioritizes the health and education opportunities of underserved women and children in Pakistan. HOPE aims to empower females with education and health so that they become self-sufficient and productive members of society. As a single woman in a male-dominated country, Dr. Mubina faced many challenges and setbacks; it was through perseverance and hard work that HOPE grew from a dream to a reality. Today, HOPE has a countrywide presence throughout Pakistan which includes hospitals, formal schools, informal schools, vocational centers, basic health clinics, mobile health clinics, and maternal health clinics, all which provide free or minimal-cost healthcare and education. Additionally, HOPE has been active in disaster relief efforts throughout Pakistan. In the course of 23 years, HOPE has emerged as a viable solution in bettering the socioeconomic forefront of the people of Pakistan, particularly women and children.

Dear HOPE Friends,

Cinepax Cinemas 🎬 Rolls Out the Red Carpet πŸŽ‰ for HOPE Children πŸ§’πŸ» - Featuring Zootopia πŸŽ₯ Screening in Ocean Mall, Karachi πŸŒ†

On February 14, 2026, 200 children πŸ§’πŸ» from HOPE's Zia Colony Formal School 🏫 in Karachi, Pakistan πŸ‡΅πŸ‡° were treated to a screening of Zootopia in Urdu at Ocean Mall, Karachi, courtesy of Cinepax Cinemas πŸŽ₯. Since HOPE caters to those living below the poverty line β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή, for the vast majority of these children, it was their first time ever seeing a movie 🎬 in a theater, and for many others, the first time ever inside a shopping mall πŸ›οΈ.

Cinepax Cinemas 🎬 extended a warm welcome to HOPE's children πŸ§’πŸ» and reserved the entire space for them to enjoy their day out with their peers. The Zootopia screening was featured in Urdu and students were treated to popcorn 🍿and drinksπŸ₯€during their visit. Needless to say, the children πŸ§’πŸ» were beyond excited for this opportunity to enjoy a movie πŸŽ₯ on the big screen with their friends and teachers.

HOPE has been operating Schools 🏫, Hospitals πŸ₯, Vocational Centers πŸ–₯️, as well as other poverty alleviationβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή services in inner city neighborhoods πŸŒ†, far-flung villages πŸ›–, and remote mountaintops ⛰️ throughout Pakistan πŸ‡΅πŸ‡° for nearly three decades. Patients and students of HOPE's Hospitals, Schools, and Vocational Centers all live below the poverty line and receive services for free/nominal cost. These services are sponsored by our generous donors to uplift people from the tenacious grip of poverty β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή .

Our heartfelt appreciation 🌹to Cinepax Cinemas πŸŽ₯ in Ocean Mall, Karachi πŸŒ† for their lovely and magnanimous gesture ✨ towards these underserved children πŸ§’πŸ» - one that they will remember for years to come!

Dear HOPE Friends,

Medical Students 🩺 from Aga Khan University Visit HOPE's Zia Colony Hospital πŸ₯

On February 12, 2026, medical students 🩺 from Pakistan's renowned Aga Khan University Medical College visited HOPE Hospital πŸ₯ Zia Colony. Zia Colony is a downtrodden inner city district within the bustling city of Karachi, Pakistan πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°.

HOPE has been operating a Formal School 🏫, Hospital πŸ₯, Vocational Centers πŸ–₯️, and Maternal and Child Health Centers πŸ₯ within the poverty-stricken area of Zia Colony for over two decades. Patients and students of HOPE's Hospitals, Schools, and Vocational Centers all live below the poverty line and receive services for free/nominal cost. These services are sponsored by our generous donors to uplift people from the tenacious grip of poverty β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή .

The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate how hospitals function within the broader healthcare system, with a focus on healthcare delivery. The 25 second-year medical students 🩺 from Aga Khan University participated in a field visit to gain perspective on:

πŸ”Ά Zia Colony Hospital's πŸ₯ role in delivering primary, secondary, and tertiary care 🩺

πŸ”Ά Integration of hospital πŸ₯services within the larger health system

πŸ”Ά Patient care practices and approaches to maintaining healthcare quality πŸ₯Ό and patient safety

πŸ”Ά Operational strategies used to overcome challenges in delivering patient care πŸ“„

This field trip was initiated by the Department of Community Health Services at Aga Khan University. Aga Khan University students met with HOPE personnel, including HOPE Pakistan Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, during the visit.

Thank you to Aga Khan University students as well as the Department of Community Health Services at Aga Khan University for their interest in learning how HOPE Zia Colony Hospital functions within the broader realm of healthcare services within Karachi, Pakistan πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°.

Dear HOPE Friends,

There is a well-known saying that "No good deed goes unpunished." Indeed this adage has hit close to home for the HOPE Pakistan Team.

In a recent course of action that has left our team stunned, the Federal Investigative Agency of Pakistan (pursuant to directives from the US Embassy) has levied serious charges against Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, founder of HOPE Pakistan. These charges allege that a number of child adoptions that were facilitated by HOPE between 2006 and 2015 entail human trafficking. Since all legal protocols and procedures (including filing the requisite paperwork and ensuring that the children were placed in trustworthy families who would raise them with the utmost care and love) were followed at the time and the visas for all children given for adoption were approved and issued by the US Embassy itself, this certainly comes as a shock to the entire HOPE Team. As such, we felt it was appropriate to issue a statement clarifying matters as media reports can often be sensationalized and put forth as fact without due process being given to the innocently accused.

HOPE Pakistan was started 28 years ago by Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla while she was studying to become a pediatrician at Dow Medical School in Karachi, Pakistan. Today, HOPE has evolved to an organization that prioritizes the health and education opportunities of underserved women and children in Pakistan

*In total, as an organization, we provide free/nominal cost services and have developed an all encompassing poverty alleviation plan which reaches 1,000,000 beneficiaries per year, 70% of whom are women and children:*

*Healthcare:*

● 4 hospitals: 900,000 patients/year total
● 10 Maternal & Child Centers: 120,000 patients/year total
● 1 Basic Health Unit: 40,000 patients/year total
● 2 Mobile Health Units: 70,000 patients/year total
● 70% of our patients are women and children

*Education:*

● 3 formal schools: 2,000 students/year total
● 200 informal or home schools: 11,000 students/year total
● 70% of our students are girls

*Vocational Training:*

● 6 vocational centers which have served over 7,000 young adults to date
● 80% of our students are young women

*Clean Water:*

● 165 hand pumps installed in rural and remote areas serving 125,000 people
● 25 million liters of Procter & Gamble PuR Water sachets distributed to date

*Disaster Relief:*

● 500,000 victims aided total in natural disasters such as the 2022 Pakistan FloodCrisis and the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake
● Over 35 million liters of PuR water sachets distributed to date

*Our work has spanned nearly three decades thus far and impacts all regions of Pakistan. Child adoptions have never been a primary focus of what we do. From time to time however, being a social welfare organization dedicated to poverty alleviation within a third world country, abandoned children have been placed at the doorsteps of our facilities or in the nearby premises of the downtrodden neighborhoods in which we have a presence. Rather than leave those vulnerable infants to the forces of nature or predatory individuals, we took it upon ourselves to place them into homes in which they would be loved and cherished. Of course, the placement of these children into adoptive families was only done after filing the required legal paperwork and adhering to due processes that were in place at the time.*

*HOPE did not stand to gain financially from facilitating the adoptions of these children at the time, nor was this ever the case in the years following. Dr. Mubina did not receive any benefit at any time for undertaking such a weighty responsibility. Rather, we assumed a tremendous risk by assuming temporary custody of these children in order to remove them from potential harm since they were abandoned and no one had stepped forth to claim them. This risk was undertaken with the best interest of each child in mind and fear of neglect/abuse or even death of these children if we chose to do nothing and looked the other way. In the years since, every child (23 total) has since gone on to live a fulfilling childhood within their respective loving families. Local Pakistani courts approved the adoptions at the time without raising any questions and similarly, the US Embassy readily issued visas for the children who were placed in families residing in the US. No objections were raised regarding any of the adoption cases by any governing body at the time.*

As a team, we stand in solidarity with Dr. Mubina in light of the heinous charges that have been brought against her. Over the course of 28 years, through HOPE, she has single-handedly used determination and vision to bring life and hope into inner city neighborhoods, remote, mountaintop regions, and rural village areas that have historically been neglected. She and HOPE have been staunch champions of downtrodden women, children, orphans, and widows. Countless men, women, and children have broken free from the tenacious grip of poverty through her sacrifices and perseverance. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the allegations are unsubstantiated and lack merit, we must follow due processes in order to reinstate her innocence as all human trafficking charges are heavily scrutinized.

With God's will, HOPE's work will continue and Dr. Mubina's innocence will be proven without further delay. We thank our loyal supporters who we trust will not rush to judgements after reading sensationalized media reports, but will use their critical thinking skills to carefully assess the history of the organization and the facts at hand. During this time, we request your prayers and support that justice will prevail.

Warm regards,

The HOPE Pakistan Team

Dear HOPE Friends,

HOPE Success 🌠 Story Testimonial 🎀- Noman Ali - Former HOPE Student πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸŽ“

Please enjoy the video πŸ“½οΈ testimonial by Noman Ali, a former student πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸŽ“ of HOPE who grew up in meager surroundings and after attaining an education πŸ“š at HOPE schools 🏫 - went on to become a vice principal himself.

"Assalam Alaikum - I am Noman Ali. I want to tell you a short story today, a story of a boy whose morning began with school books πŸ“š, but evenings were spent with his father in a small shop repairing punctures πŸš™ (flat tires) and cycles 🏍️, often with greaseπŸ›’οΈ on his hands, but dreams 🌠 in his eyes. The boy came from a background where survival β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή was a priority and education πŸŽ“ was a luxury.

And then, something remarkable happened. That boy got admission in a school 🏫, HOPE school, a school not just built with bricks 🧱 and cement, but with a vision ✨ to change lives. He got an education πŸŽ’ and facilities there and passed Matric (10th grade) and got admission into the University of Karachi from where he got Masters of Physics degree and his Bachelor's in Education degrees πŸŽ“.

That boy is sitting in front of you today. Yes, I was that boy. Today, by the Grace of Almighty Allah and the support of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, and HOPE, I proudly serve as a Vice Principal of Fazaia Intermediate College in Korangi Creek. From fixing tires πŸš™ to fixing futures ✨, it was a long journey, and I owe so much of it to the School 🏫 and Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla.

And to the supporters and donors of HOPE, I want to say that you may not see the ripple effect created by your support, but I am a living example that your support makes a difference 🫢🏼.

πŸ’Thank you, HOPE, thank you, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla. Thank you!"

🌹And from the HOPE Team, thank you to all our supporters who make hundreds of stories like this possible!
