August 1st is MPA Day. MPAs are one of the most effective tools we have for restoring ocean health, and for surfers that means healthier reefs, cleaner water, and protected breaks for generations to come. This year, surf conservation organisations from around the world are coming together to share the stories of the coastlines they’re working to protect.

Mangroves - Hotspots of Biodiversity
World Mangrove Day 2026

Did you know?
🌊 Mangroves are a unique group of salt-tolerant trees and shrubs that grow in coastal regions where land meets the sea.
🌊 They protect the city from cyclones, floods, and tsunamis. Their sturdy roots trap sediment and act as a barrier against erosion and storm surges.
🌊 Mangroves absorb 4x more carbon than rainforests and 18% more CO₂ than other trees.
🌊 They act as nurseries and breeding grounds for various species of fish and many coastal communities depend on them for a living.

🌏 Despite recent restoration efforts, mangroves in Pakistan continue to face threats from pollution, urban expansion, reduced freshwater flow, and climate change, highlighting the urgent need for conservation initiatives.

🌊 Did you know that coral reefs are also called "rainforests of the sea"?

🐟 As the planet's most diverse ecosystems, coral reefs are formed over hundreds of years from the skeletons of many tiny coral "polyps". Today, the provide habitats for around 1/4 of all marine life despite only covering less than 1% of the sea floor.

July 14th - Shark Awareness Day

Sharks are vital apex predators that keep marine food webs in balance, support biodiversity, and help maintain habitats like coral reefs and seagrass beds. When shark populations decline due to overfishing, finning, and bycatch, reefs can shift to algae dominance, and nutrient and carbon cycles in the ocean become disrupted. This Shark Awareness Day, let’s turn fear into action and give sharks the protection they urgently need.

We are incredibly proud to share our leader and founder Songul Jamal won the Gender Climate Award 2026, an award honoring outstanding contributions of women leading climate action in Pakistan.
