LHC Clears Writ Petition Against PIA Privatisation on Friday.
Lahore: The Registrar Office of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday cleared a constitutional writ petition challenging the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), without raising any office objections.
The petition has been filed by Advocate Nabeel Javed Kahloon, Advocate High Court, a senior aviation law practitioner and head of Nabeel Javed Law Company (NJLC). The writ challenges the legality, transparency, and lawfulness of the ongoing PIA privatisation process.
According to court sources, the writ petition has been formally passed by the Registrar and forwarded for approval of the Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, for constitution of an appropriate bench. The matter is expected to be fixed for hearing on Monday.
The petition raises issues of public importance, including protection of national assets, employees’ rights, and alleged violations of the PIA Conversion Act, 2016, Privatisation Commission laws, and constitutional safeguards.
Legal experts consider the clearance of the petition without office objections a significant procedural development, indicating that the case is maintainable and ready for judicial scrutiny.
Further proceedings will commence after the Chief Justice constitutes the appropriate bench.
