Mehr-Ghar is an Flagship initiative of Mehrdar Art and Production (MAP). Since March 2021, Mehr-Ghar has hosted hundreds of activities, ranging from trainings/workshops, poetry readings and film screenings to vibrant debate on critical issues with support and participation of local communities, stakeholders, musicians, artists, writers, filmmakers & local leaders. Mehr-Ghar has contributed to revitalizing Lyari’s Cultural Landscape and has provided an alternative, independent safe community space discourse to local people. At Mehr-Ghar, We encourage, empower & engage young individuals, local youth groups, artist community, local stakeholders and community based organization to build the social change through Arts, Creative Expression and Open Dialogue. The place has become a Centre of cultural and intellectual activities that contributing to
Sustainable Development Goal 16, focusing on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

*واجہ یوسف نسکندی سے جڑی لیاری کی یادیں*

مہرگھر آپ کو بلوچ قوم کی معروف سیاسی، سماجی اور ادبی شخصیت واجہ یوسف نسکندی کی یاد میں منعقدہ ایک خصوصی نشست میں شرکت کی پُرخلوص دعوت دیتا ہے۔ یہ نشست ان کی بیسویں برسی کے سلسلے کی ایک کاوش ہے، جس میں ہم لیاری سے ان کی وابستگی، خدمات، جدوجہد اور یادوں پر گفتگو کریں گے۔

یہ تقریب "ورثہِ لیاری" پروگرام کا حصہ ہے، جس کا مقصد لیاری کے ثقافتی، سماجی اور فکری ورثے کو اجاگر کرنا اور نئی نسل تک منتقل کرنا ہے۔

اس موقع پر ہم واجہ یوسف نسکندی کی سیاسی، ادبی اور سماجی خدمات کو خراجِ عقیدت پیش کریں گے، جبکہ ان کے قریبی ساتھی، دانشور، ادیب: مکالمے، یادوں اور گفتگو کے ذریعے ان کے فکر و عمل کے ورثے کو زندہ رکھتے ہوئے نئی نسل تک منتقل کرنے کی کوشش کریں گے۔

ہماری محفل میں شہرِ کراچی صرف ایک شہر نہیں تھا، بلکہ کئی چہروں، کئی آوازوں، کئی یادوں اور کئی حقیقتوں کا مجموعہ تھا۔

“کراچی ایک نہیں — کئی ہوں” پر ہونے والی اس گفتگو میں Sabin Agha نے کراچی کے ماضی، اس کے مشکل ادوار، خوف، جدوجہد اور خوبصورت یادوں کو نہایت سچائی اور احساس کے ساتھ بیان کیا۔

نشست میں اس بات پر بھی گفتگو ہوئی کہ ہم بحیثیت شہری اپنے شہر کے لیے کیا کردار ادا کر سکتے ہیں، اور کیسے مکالمہ، شعور اور مشترکہ ذمہ داری کراچی کو بہتر بنانے میں اہم کردار ادا کر سکتے ہیں.

گزشتہ دنوں مہر گھر میں “ورثۂ لیاری” کے عنوان سے ایک بامقصد نشست کا انعقاد کیا گیا، جس میں مختلف شعبۂ زندگی سے تعلق رکھنے والے افراد نے شرکت کی۔ اس نشست کا مقصد لیاری کے تاریخی، ثقافتی اور جغرافیائی ورثے کو سمجھنا، محفوظ کرنا اور نئی نسل تک منتقل کرنے کے حوالے سے اجتماعی شعور کو فروغ دینا تھا۔

نشست کے دوران شیئر کیے گئے ایک سروے کے مطابق 15 سے 25 سال کے نوجوانوں کی بڑی تعداد اپنے علاقے کے ورثے سے ناواقف ہے اور اس میں دلچسپی بھی محدود ہے۔ اس تشویشناک صورتحال نے اس امر کو اجاگر کیا کہ فوری طور پر ایسے اقدامات کی ضرورت ہے جو نوجوانوں کو اپنے ماضی، شناخت اور ثقافتی جڑوں سے جوڑ سکیں۔

گفتگو میں اس بات پر زور دیا گیا کہ لیاری کا تاریخی دائرہ، اس کی قدیم بستیاں، بازار اور ثقافتی مقامات ایک بھرپور ورثہ رکھتے ہیں، جنہیں دستاویزی شکل دینا اور محفوظ کرنا وقت کی اہم ضرورت ہے۔ اس کے ساتھ ساتھ شہری تبدیلیوں اور نظرانداز کیے گئے مقامات کی بحالی پر بھی توجہ دینے کی ضرورت کو اجاگر کیا گیا۔

نشست کا نتیجہ اس عزم کے ساتھ سامنے آیا کہ کمیونٹی کی شمولیت سے ایک ایسا پلیٹ فارم تشکیل دیا جائے جہاں لیاری کے ورثے کو یکجا، محفوظ اور آئندہ نسلوں تک منتقل کیا جا سکے، تاکہ نوجوان نہ صرف اپنی شناخت کو سمجھیں بلکہ اس پر فخر بھی محسوس کریں.

Our first community gathering of Virsa-e-Lyari brought together voices, memories, and a shared sense of responsibility.

We explored an important question: how can we not only preserve our heritage, but also carry it forward through the energy and ownership of young people? The discussion focused on educating youth about their roots, creating spaces for learning, and building a collective platform where our stories, history, and cultural expressions can be documented before they fade.

Participants shared powerful insights, personal experiences, and practical ideas reminding us that heritage lives through people, not just places.

This is just the beginning.

The conversation will continue.
