Ni****ne is not harmless.
It can activate the brain’s reward pathways, create an urge to repeat use and gradually strengthen patterns that may become difficult to stop. This is especially concerning for young people, as the brain continues developing through adolescence.
Ni****ne and to***co products may appear in different forms, but a different format does not remove the concern.
Parents, caregivers and teachers need clear information to recognise the risks, respond to questions and have informed conversations with young people before experimentation becomes a repeated pattern.
Swipe through to understand how ni****ne can affect the developing brain and why early prevention matters.
Every step counts.

Responsible communication can shape how communities understand and respond to youth access to ni****ne and to***co.
At the Karachi Media Meet, media professionals came together to discuss the role of accurate, sensitive and youth-centred reporting in strengthening prevention. The conversation explored how responsible storytelling can build awareness, challenge misconceptions and help parents, caregivers, teachers and communities make informed decisions.
When information is communicated responsibly, it becomes a tool for prevention.
Every conversation matters. Every step counts.

Taking prevention into schools.

Through YAP, we are conducting awareness sessions in schools for parents, caregivers and teachers, the adults who play an essential role in protecting young people from access to ni****ne and to***co.

These sessions help adults understand where exposure can begin, recognise changes or concerns, start informed conversations and respond with care. Teachers are also supported in creating safer and more responsive school environments.

When the adults around young people are informed and prepared, prevention becomes stronger at home and at school.

Different roles. One shared responsibility.

Every step counts.

The journey from the school gate to the front door is not always as simple as it seems.

Along the way, young people may encounter conversations, retail access points, spaces with limited adult supervision and digital content that can normalise ni****ne and to***co. These possible exposure points are not proof of access, but they are reasons for adults to remain aware, connected and ready to talk.

Walk the route. Notice what surrounds them. Ask without judgement.
Because every step between school and home can shape what young people see, hear and begin to consider normal.

Ghar Tak Ka Raasta. Every Step Counts.

The journey home is more than the distance between a school gate and a front door.
It is made up of everyday places, people, stops and influences that can easily go unnoticed.
This week, take another look at the route.
Look. Listen. Ask.
Understanding the environment around young people is one small step towards stronger prevention.

You know the school gate.
You know the front door.
But how well do you know what sits in between?

The everyday route home can include places, people and influences we stop noticing simply because they become familiar.

Sometimes prevention starts with looking again.

Entrepreneurship & Youth Development Society (EYDS) believes that lasting protection begins with informed adults, responsible institutions and communities equipped to act.

Through Youth Access Prevention (YAP), EYDS is strengthening the protective environments surrounding young people across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The initiative works with parents, caregivers, teachers, institutions and communities to prevent young people’s access to to***co and ni****ne.

Recognising that adult behaviour also shapes these environments, YAP promotes informed harm-reduction choices among adults who smoke, including quitting, reducing to***co use or, where quitting is not immediately possible, moving towards appropriate, evidence-informed alternatives.

YAP reflects our commitment to practical, community-led prevention: strengthening gatekeepers and turning everyday actions into lasting protection.

Follow Youth Access Prevention and join us in taking a step towards safer, more informed communities.

Every step counts.
