A panel discussion was held during the Annual General Assembly of READY PAKISTAN and the START Network on how droughts, floods, and heat waves impact rural communities in Pakistan and how anticipatory actions can save lives and livelihoods.
The Executive Director of Rural Development Foundation (RDF) and Chair Flood Technical Working Group Pakistan Fazul Khan Chandio shared insights and responded to participants’ questions at Hill View Hotel Islamabad . The discussion focused on livelihoods, agriculture, and livestock, with special attention to climate challenges in Sindh.
RDF highlighted the following Anticipatory Actions:
▪Proactive and early preparedness approach
▪Climate forecasting and early warning systems
▪Community drills and formation of village committees
▪Climate-resilient infrastructure and local solutions
▪Livestock vaccination and protection measures
▪Community trainings and capacity building
▪Pre-planning and pre-financing to reduce disaster risks
▪Promotion of climate-resilient seeds
▪Establishment of community seed banks to ensure food security
These measures aim to strengthen community resilience and minimize losses from climate-induced disasters.
