At our Sunrise Equine Therapy Center, horses do what words often cannot. Since 2016 we've welcomed more than 1.300 children aged 4-18-living with autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and more into a programme that builds balance, confidence and communication one session at a time.

Each child is paired with a horse suited to them, supported by a trained instructor and two side-walkers. Progress here isn't measured in medals. It's measured in a first word, a first smile, a first moment of calm.

**Lead Exposure & Child Brain Development: What Parents Should Know**

Lead is a powerful neurotoxin, and **no level of lead exposure is considered safe for children**. Even low levels can affect the developing brain, impacting learning, attention, memory, and behavior.

Research has linked childhood lead exposure with increased risks of attention problems and ADHD symptoms. However, **current evidence does not show that lead directly causes Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).**

**Key facts:**
• Children’s brains are especially vulnerable to lead exposure.
• Low-level exposure can affect IQ, focus, and executive functioning.
• Prevention and early identification are the best protections.

**Common sources of lead include:**
• Old peeling paint
• Contaminated dust and soil
• Lead pipes and water
• Some imported toys, cosmetics, and pottery

Creating lead-safe environments and following recommended screening guidance can help protect children’s lifelong health and development.
