🌍 CAF Member Spotlight | Climate Action in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), a valued member of the Climate Action Forum (CAF), implemented the EU-funded PEACE II Project to strengthen climate resilience in some of Pakistan’s most climate-vulnerable regions.

Spanning eight districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the initiative combines renewable micro-hydropower, afforestation, and climate-smart agriculture to restore ecosystems, expand clean energy access, and empower communities to better manage climate risks. The project aims to generate 16.3 MW of renewable energy, benefiting over 22,000 households, while large-scale plantation involving 71,960 Plants planted across Malakand district and green infrastructure involving 114,867Cu. ft. erosion-control structures are helping stabilize fragile landscapes.

Through initiatives like PEACE II, CAF member organizations continue to demonstrate how integrated climate solutions can deliver real impact for communities and ecosystems across Pakistan.

The session highlighted the importance of Post-COP dialogues in linking international agreements with local priorities. CAF Secretariat was pleased to host SIF Pakistan Mission for an in-depth Stakeholder Presentation and Discussion Session on the study “Pakistani Youth Speak Out: Taking Action on Internal Displacement due to Disasters and Climate Change.”

Led by Ms. Laura Le Floch from SIF Headquarters (France), the session brought together senior professionals, technical experts, practitioners, and organizational representatives from across the CAF network along with other stakeholders. Their engagement was vital in contextualizing the study’s findings within Pakistan’s broader climate resilience and humanitarian landscape.

The study, based on responses from 1,800+ young Pakistanis who have been displaced or are at risk of displacement, highlights urgent insights that matter not only for youth but for policy leaders, programme designers, and development institutions shaping future responses.

Key findings included:

• 87% link the rise in disasters directly to climate change.
• 90% view disasters as the primary driver of internal displacement.
• 57% report serious impacts on mental health, including depression and fear.
• 53% say their education has been disrupted, with girls facing greater emotional and mobility barriers.
• 58% report major effects on career prospects and livelihoods.
• 94% of displaced youth feel economically excluded due to reduced job access and income instability.
• 96% feel socially isolated post-displacement, highlighting the need for stronger community integration.
• Youth call for better disaster preparedness, resilient infrastructure, early warning systems, and accessible basic services, along with meaningful participation in decision-making.

These insights underscore the importance of designing policies and programs that truly reflect on-the-ground realities, particularly the lived experiences of young people who remain at the frontline of climate impacts.

We are grateful to SIF Pakistan Mission for leading this critical conversation, and to all distinguished participants whose perspectives added depth and value to the discussion.
