Alight Pakistan

Alight Pakistan Effective June, 2019, American Refugee Committee became ALIGHT. We build meaningful lives for and with the displaced. Follow us on our journey.

ALIGHT Pakistan, formerly American Refugee Committee, has launched the largest ever education initiative for Out-of-School Children (OOSC) in Pakistan, in partnership with the Government of Pakistan and Education Above All (EAA) Qatar, under the latter's Educate-A-Child (EAC) program. The strategic program aims to reach at least ten million children globally with quality primary education. Under t

his program, in Pakistan, the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training (MOENT) and ALIGHT are working to ensure enrolment and retention of one million children across the country. The EAC program is built on addressing the root causes and barriers to education at primary level and is aligned with the priorities defined in National Education Policy 2017 of the Government of Pakistan.

🌙 As Ramadan begins, we recognize this meaningful and sacred time for many of our colleagues, customers, and members of our communities.

Ramadan is a time of reflection, compassion, and care for others. Yet this year, many are observing while living through displacement, hardship, conflict, and uncertainty.

From displaced families in Sudan and Somalia, to communities we serve in Pakistan, to Afghan and Somali newcomers in Minnesota, many are experiencing this season far from home.

Let us hold space in our hearts for those experiencing instability or loss. May this month remind us of our shared humanity and call us to extend care where it is needed most.

To all who are observing, Mubarak!✨

Launched in 2002, Alight in Pakistan has been working alongside displaced communities for more than 23 years 🤝

Poverty, food insecurity, and the long-term impacts of devastating floods continue to challenge communities across the country.

Over the years, Alight Pakistan has supported more than 1.1 million out-of-school children, including over 500,000 girls, to access education. During flood emergencies, 91,000+ people received urgent assistance, and 120,000 scholarships supported Afghan girls and young women to continue their studies 📚

From education and healthcare to nutrition and livelihoods, the team combines emergency response with long-term, community-driven solutions that support dignity, resilience, and opportunity 🌱

Our Story

Starting from June of 2019, we have changed our name from “American Refugee Committee” to “ALIGHT”. Becoming Alight is more than a name change. It’s a commitment and re-envisioning of the promise we have made to the people we serve- the promise to “Unleash Abundance” in every single human being.

Alight is a human-centered organization that serves our idealism. It is our journey of co-creating and co-designing solutions with people from all walks of life and we do so with the desire to build full and fulfilling lives. It is a reflection of who we already are and all the possibilities of what we can become.

Our compass on this journey is the Yellow Book of Alight!

Since 2002, ALIGHT is both a trusted provider of humanitarian services and a front-runner in tackling the most pressing development challenges faced by the country. Today, ALIGHT stands amongst the leading partners of the Government of Pakistan that are contributing to sustainable development and socio-economic empowerment of its citizens.
