Building resilience through knowledge, preparedness, and action.

As part of its commitment to employee development and community preparedness, Shehersaaz facilitated a four-day CADRE Community Response Training conducted by Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122.

The training provided participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in key emergency response areas, including Fire Response, Rescue Operations, Flood Emergencies, Dead Body Management, and First Aid. Led by experienced trainers from Rescue 1122, the sessions combined classroom learning with practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, enabling participants to develop the confidence and competence required to respond effectively in emergency situations.

This initiative is a reflection of Shehersaaz's proactive approach to leadership and its commitment to creating a safe, resilient, and prepared workforce. By investing in emergency preparedness and disaster response capacity, Shehersaaz continues to demonstrate foresight and responsibility, ensuring that its team members are equipped with life-saving skills that can benefit both the organization and the communities it serves.

Learning, collaboration, and innovation are at the heart of sustainable development.

A multidisciplinary team from Shehersaaz, comprising members from Programmes, Procurement, Architecture, Artificial Intelligence, and Communications, along with Executive Director Ms. Almas Shakoor, visited the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plant, B-17 Islamabad. The delegation was warmly hosted by Ms. Sumera, Focal Person of IRRC, who facilitated an insightful tour of the facility.

The team was introduced to the plant's infrastructure and operational systems, gaining firsthand knowledge of how different waste streams are collected, sorted, processed, and managed to promote environmental sustainability. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to explore innovative waste management practices and exchange ideas on creating cleaner, greener, and more resilient communities.

At Shehersaaz, we believe that meaningful change begins with continuous learning, collaboration, and cross-sector partnerships. We are grateful to the IRRC team for sharing their expertise and providing valuable insights into the operations of the SWM Plant. The true measure of development lies in the positive change it brings to people's lives. Through its innovative interventions in government schools across Rawalpindi, Shehersaaz has established a remarkable model of sustainable and community-centered development.

By installing rainwater harvesting and water purification systems in more than 18 schools, introducing creative plantation solutions in space-constrained environments, and providing formal first aid training to students and faculty members, Shehersaaz has delivered practical solutions to real challenges faced by educational institutions.

These achievements were strengthened through close collaboration with government stakeholders, including Mr. Tariq Mehmood, Chief Executive Officer, District Lahore Education Authority Lahore, who worked alongside Shehersaaz during his tenure in Rawalpindi. His appreciation highlights the tangible impact these interventions have had on schools, students, educators, and local authorities alike.

Building Climate-Resilient Campuses, Creating a Sustainable Future.

At Shehersaaz, sustainable development is driven by practical, impactful action. The installation of a Rainwater Harvesting Unit at the NUST School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCEE), Islamabad, marks another significant milestone in advancing climate-smart educational infrastructure and responsible water resource management in Pakistan.

This intervention, implemented under the Program for Safe, Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable Educational Places for All (PROGRESSIVE), will directly benefit over 1,000 students and faculty members, serving as both an operational water conservation system and a learning model for future engineers, researchers, and environmental leaders.

The project was inaugurated by Ms. Almas Shakoor, Executive Director of Shehersaaz, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Irfan, Principal & Dean of SCEE, NUST, and Mr. Jawed Ali Khan, Senior Advisor/Country Programme Manager, UN-Habitat, in the presence of distinguished representatives from UN-Habitat, Shehersaaz, and the faculty of SCEE NUST.

Implemented by Shehersaaz, the implementation partner under the PUCCAR (Project for Urban Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience), in partnership with UN-Habitat and with financial support from the Adaptation Fund, this initiative demonstrates how collaborative action can transform educational institutions into centers of climate resilience and environmental innovation.

By capturing and utilizing rainwater, this project reduces pressure on conventional water resources while inspiring sustainable practices that will benefit generations to come. Together, we are turning climate challenges into opportunities for a resilient Pakistan.
