Muslim Hands is registered in Pakistan under the Social Welfare Ordinance Act 1961 (Charity Reg. No: VSWA/ICT/427). Muslim Hands Pakistan’s programmatic and operational interventions are executed directly under the umbrella of Muslim Hands UK which is also the Headquarters of the Organization.
The organization is working for different social sectors in Pakistan like Education, Health, WASH, Sports for Development, Environment and Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction (DP/DRR). These interventions are cross-cutting in MH’s Country Program.
Muslim Hands is working for social development and integration of street connected children and general youth through sports.
Muslim Hands has a specific focus in child protection thematic areas, street children. The two groups, at-risk children and street children were selected under approaches of prevention and protection respectively. First to stop them from joining streets by addressing push and pull factors and second to protect those on streets by service provision and reuniting them with their families.
In 2015, our sports for development initiative was extended to Azad Kashmir (Pakistan) to engage children from underprivileged and vulnerable communities. We have successfully introduced preventive measures and have used Sports as a tool for development to promote healthy activities, child’s personal development, leadership and peace-building skills amongst children and communities.
Over 1,000 children have been engaged across Pakistan in Sports and Sports based non-formal activities using “Child’s Right to Play” as our guiding principle. Through this Sports for Development program we have provided them with opportunities to play Football and a supervised environment.
Sports for development is one of the major tools of MH’s National Street Child Project to socially reintegrate the street children in a society. Muslim Hands Mirpur initiated a project in Mirpur to facilitate the youth in terms of sports for development.
In this regard, state of the art Football & Cricket Academies have been constructed in the heart of the city at Mirpur along with facilities of professional coaching staff. The basic aim of MH Mirpur Street Child Project is to promote the local, under privileged street children and provide them substantial training & coaching of Football & Cricket through our Youth Academies and give them an opportunity to earn a respectable living through sports.
