Cesvi Pakistan

Cesvi Pakistan Cesvi Pakistan is an organization driven by international humanitarian and development standards.

Focused on building resilience in at-risk communities, prioritizes localization, humanitarian development, and peace building. Cesvi is an international aid organization responding to humanitarian crises and disasters, working to alleviating poverty and supporting sustainable development for the last 35 years. Cesvi operates around the world under the pillars of social justice and respect of human

rights to bring about positive change in the most vulnerable communities. Cesvi’s work in Pakistan began with rehabilitation and WASH support to communities affected by the massive earthquake in 2005. Cesvi has since directly benefitted over 2.6 million people through multi-sectoral humanitarian and development interventions in the shelter, WASH, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, health, and skills development. Working in hard-to-reach and often neglected areas of Pakistan, such as the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Cesvi has accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the local operational contexts and developed strong ties with the communities; with programs ranging from earthquake and flood responses, assisting Temporarily Displaced Persons, helping returnee families settle back in with dignity, to tackling a novel crisis in the form of a global pandemic.

The Resilience and Adaptation by Fostering Anticipatory Action (RAFAA) project reached a significant milestone with the successful conclusion of its first Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting at the Sindh Secretariat.

A collaborative effort led by FAO Pakistan in partnership with CESVI and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the RAFAA project will work over the next 36 months to protect livelihoods and enhance the adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities in Sindh against climate shocks like floods and droughts.

The meeting established a strategic roadmap for the project, including the approval of the initial six-month work plan and the confirmation of targeted local interventions in the Umerkot and Mirpurkhas districts.

A heartfelt thank you to our esteemed chairs, participants, and partners for their commitment to building a more resilient future for Sindh:

H.E. Marilina Armellin, Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan (Co-Chair & Donor)

Bridges that once posed a significant safety risk to the local community have been transformed into vital lifelines following a successful rehabilitation effort.

In a comprehensive initiative, CESVI, under the BRAVE Phase II, has restored 47 civil schemes across District Shangla, including suspension bridges, water systems, and retaining walls, all of which are now fully complete and functional. This extensive project was carried out in close coordination with the local government to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.

The successful completion of these works was officially recognized today as Deputy Commissioner Shangla, Abdullah Shah, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief), Syed Hammad Shah, formally inaugurated the newly rehabilitated suspension bridge, marking a new chapter of safety and connectivity for the region.

Sindh is home to nearly 48 million people, almost a quarter of Pakistan’s population.

Yet when it comes to climate change, the burden it carries is far heavier than its share. Pakistan emits around 529 million tonnes of CO₂ each year. While Sindh’s exact emissions are not officially calculated, experts estimate the province may contribute over 100 million tonnes annually, largely due to energy, transport, and agriculture.

This is not just about statistics. It is about lives, livelihoods, and a future under pressure.

Immediate action is needed to reduce carbon emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and protect vulnerable communities across Sindh.
