For over 2 decades, the “Hemophilia Foundation-Pakistan [HFP]” has provided national leadership to improve and sustain care for people with inherited bleeding disorders, including hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, rare factor deficiencies, and inherited platelet disorders. We save and improve lives of our community by:

•Advocating f

or adequate supply of safe treatment products; and
•Educating people with bleeding disorders to help them live healthier, longer and more productive lives. Through our network of committed volunteers and associated stakeholders, the HFP acts as a catalyst to bring about needed change. To this effect, the HFP operates through its Chapters to work with motivated health care providers, patients, their families and members of the community to foster quality health care for people with bleeding disorders. We are proud to share that Dr. Abira Maheen, President of the Hemophilia Foundation - Pakistan (HFP), contributed as a patient speaker during an important session on 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙂𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘽𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 (𝙒𝙂𝘽𝘿) at the WFH 2026 World Congress organized by World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) in Kuala Lumpur.

As both a medical doctor and a person living with a bleeding disorder, Dr. Abira brought a unique perspective that combined professional expertise with lived experience, ensuring that the patient voice remained at the heart of the discussion.

Experts explored the latest developments in diagnosis, treatment, joint health, and pelvic floor therapy, areas that are essential for improving quality of life for women and girls with bleeding disorders.

Drawing from her personal journey, Dr. Abira spoke about the challenges many women continue to face, including delayed diagnosis, lack of awareness, and barriers to accessing appropriate care, particularly during menstruation, pregnancy, and the postpartum period.

Her participation reflects the growing recognition that effective care must go beyond treating symptoms, it must listen to and learn from the experiences of those living with bleeding disorders every day.

We are honored to see Pakistan's patient community represented on the global stage and contributing to conversations that are shaping the future of care worldwide.

The Hemophilia Foundation - Pakistan (HFP) is immensely proud and deeply honored to receive the prestigious 𝐖𝐅𝐇 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭’𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 during the Inaugural Plenary of the WFH 2026 World Congress in Kuala Lumpur.

Established in 2018, the WFH President’s Award is presented every two years by the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) to an individual or organization that has demonstrated exceptional service and created a lasting impact within the bleeding disorders community in their country. This distinguished recognition is not only a proud milestone for HFP, but also a moment of honor for the entire bleeding disorders community of Pakistan.

Founded as a community-led, non-profit organization, HFP has remained steadfast in its mission to improve and sustain care for individuals living with inherited bleeding disorders across Pakistan.

At a time when dedicated support systems and government-backed care were extremely limited, HFP stepped forward to bridge critical gaps in patient care, advocacy, awareness, education, and support services.

Together with its affiliated HFP Chapters nationwide, the organization has played a pioneering role in establishing and strengthening Hemophilia Treatment Centres (HTCs) throughout the country. Through continuous advocacy, patient empowerment, awareness campaigns, capacity-building initiatives, and strategic collaborations under various WFH programs, HFP has continued advancing access to diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive care for patients and families across Pakistan.

This global recognition reflects the dedication, resilience, and collective efforts of patients, families, healthcare professionals, volunteers, chapter leaders, supporters, and international partners who have contributed to this remarkable journey.

HFP extends its heartfelt gratitude to the World Federation of Hemophilia, all HFP Chapters, healthcare professionals, partners, supporters, and the courageous patients and families whose trust and determination continue to inspire this mission every single day.

As we celebrate this milestone, we renew our commitment to advocating for equitable, accessible, and sustainable care for every individual living with bleeding disorders in Pakistan.
