🇵🇰🌱 Independence Day Tree Plantation

On the occasion of Independence Day, Friends of Margalla Hills organized a tree plantation activity at the Islamabad Boy Scouts Association (IBSA) in Islamabad.

Our commitment does not end with planting trees. From time to time, the Friends of Margalla Hills team also visits the plantation site to monitor, protect, and care for the planted trees.

If you plant a tree, please take responsibility for its care and protection. Planting is only the beginning; protecting and nurturing it is the real responsibility.

Seed balls are a good way to increase the green areas/tree cover is open, unprotected spaces where allowed.
However, seed balls should not normally be used indiscriminately inside a national park or other protected area. Unsolicited use of seed balls inside a protected area like a national park is strongly discouraged and often illegal (e.g. in national parks across US, UK, Canada and some African countries), but they can be used only under strict, professional scientific oversight.
• Tossing random commercial or "wildflower" mixes can introduce invasive species, non-native weeds/plantns, or aggressive plants that destroy delicate park ecosystems.
• Even if a plant is native to the country, introducing seeds collected from a distant region alters the local genetic makeup and natural adaptation of the park's specific flora.
• Conservationists use precise ecological mapping; random seeding interferes with any ongoing, targeted restoration work and scientific monitoring.
• Professional park authorities may approve seed balls only as a controlled, emergency restoration tool for severely degraded, inaccessible, or fire-damaged zones using vetted protocols.
Therefore, while we should use seed balls in areas around us, if we plan this within a national park (e.g. Marga;;ah Hills National Park), then the activity has to be properly planned and approved through IWMB. Individuals should avoid throwing seed balls randomly with MHNP.

🔥 Never burn garbage, plastic, or waste in the open
🏭 Support efforts to reduce harmful industrial emissions
🌳 Plant more trees and protect our existing forests
🚯 Keep Margalla Hills and other natural areas clean and litter-free
🌱 Choose environmentally responsible and sustainable practices

Clean air is not a luxury — it is a basic necessity and a right for every generation.

This 7 September, let’s take responsibility for the air we breathe and work together for cleaner air, healthier communities, and greener Margalla Hills.
