As part of a collaborative experience-sharing effort by the Association for Social Development (ASD), with support from the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS), and in partnership with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination Islamabad and the Health Services Academy (HSA), this video highlights how family perceptions of effective treatment and expectations for quick recovery can influence healthcare decisions among individuals experiencing URTI/diarrhea.

The video demonstrates how these social and familial expectations can contribute to self-medication and the inappropriate use of antibiotics, further adding to the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). These lived experiences are helping transform community realities into awareness, dialogue, and practical solutions.

As part of a collaborative experience-sharing effort by ASD, with support from the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) and in partnership with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination Islamabad, and the Health Services Academy, this video highlights the lived experiences of individuals with URTI/diarrhea in accessing healthcare.

The video demonstrates how limited family support and competing daily responsibilities can restrict timely healthcare-seeking, sometimes leading individuals to rely on self-medication and resulting in the inappropriate use of antibiotics.

When the Planet Changes, Health Systems Must Respond

Earth Day 2026 reminds us: “Our Power, Our Planet.”

• Global health data already shows the scale of impact:
• 7 million deaths annually from air pollution (WHO)
• 1.4 million deaths annually from unsafe water and sanitation (WHO/UNICEF JMP)
• Climate-sensitive diseases like malaria and dengue affect hundreds of millions annually (WHO)

ASD’s work in integrated disease control and health systems strengthening is guided by one principle:
As environmental change reshapes disease patterns, health systems must continuously adapt their response capacity.

This Earth Day, “Our Power” is system capacity under climate stress.

On the occasion of the Vaisakhi Festival, ASD is positioning TB screening and care within one of the largest community gatherings at Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Hassan Abdal.

This approach reflects a deliberate strategy; bringing essential health services into culturally significant spaces to reduce access barriers and enable timely care-seeking.

Community members are actively engaging with screening and diagnostic services, demonstrating the value of aligning public health interventions with moments of collective presence.

The activity continues, advancing equitable access to TB care through community-centered delivery models.

Expanding TB case detection through structured, community-based outreach.

ASD is currently implementing an Active Case Finding (ACF) Chest Camp at Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Hassan Abdal, to accelerate early detection and timely initiation of tuberculosis care.

Delivered with the support of Mercy Corps, Mercy Corps Pakistan, National TB Control Program Pakistan, and Provincial TB Control Program, Punjab, the intervention is operationalizing an integrated service model, combining screening, diagnosis, and treatment linkage within a single, coordinated platform.

The on-ground implementation reflects a system-oriented approach, with organized patient flow, adherence to program protocols, and alignment with national TB control priorities.

The activity remains ongoing, with continued service delivery and outreach in progress.

What does it mean to stand with science?

For us at the Association for Social Development, it means making deliberate choices;
to trust evidence over misinformation,
to seek guidance from science-based institutions,
to support the work of health professionals and researchers,
and to make informed decisions that protect individuals, families, and communities.

Across diverse health challenges, from infectious diseases to non-communicable conditions, science remains the foundation of effective action. As emphasized by the Health Organization (WHO), building trust in evidence and strengthening collaboration are essential to advancing global health.

On World Health Day 2026, we reaffirm a simple principle:
Science only protects us when we stand with it.

World Health Day 2026: Together for Health. Stand with Science

At the Association for Social Development, we work across diverse health domains, from TB and diabetes to maternal health, AMR, mental health, clubfoot care, hepatitis, and smoking cessation, because the challenges of today’s world are interconnected.

On World Health Day, we join World Health Organization (WHO) in reaffirming our commitment to science-led policies, community-focused solutions, and evidence-based health action.

Because science connects everything.

Together, we can protect lives, advance health equity, and create lasting impact.
