An important consultative and advocacy meeting on the energy crisis and possible pathways forward was held between CRPD (Mehran Wazir, CEO, Dr. khandim Hussain, Director Research; Hina Yousaf, Advocacy & Outreach Officer) and Rehmat Salam Khattak, Provincial Secretary Information, PML-N, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During the discussion, strong emphasis was placed on promoting solarization across the province as a sustainable response to the growing energy crisis. Participants highlighted the need for the provincial government to introduce subsidies and policy support for solar energy projects to ensure affordable and alternative energy access for the public. The meeting also explored decentralized and hub-based energy systems that could enable locally generated, environmentally friendly electricity and reduce pressure on the national grid.
As a key representative of the opposition’s party in the province, Mr. Rehmat Salam Khattak’s support and engagement were recognized as highly significant in advancing practical policy measures and facilitating wider adoption of solarization initiatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

اجلاس کے دوران صوبے میں سولرائزیشن کے فروغ پر بھرپور زور دیا گیا تاکہ بڑھتے ہوئے توانائی بحران کا پائیدار حل ممکن بنایا جا سکے۔ شرکاء نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ صوبائی حکومت سولر توانائی منصوبوں کے لیے سبسڈی اور پالیسی معاونت فراہم کرے تاکہ عوام کو سستی اور متبادل توانائی میسر آ سکے۔ اجلاس میں ڈی سینٹرلائزڈ یا ہب بیسڈ توانائی نظاموں پر بھی تفصیلی گفتگو کی گئی، جن کے ذریعے مقامی سطح پر ماحول دوست بجلی پیدا کی جا سکتی ہے اور قومی گرڈ پر دباؤ کم کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
شرکاء نے اس بات کو بھی اجاگر کیا کہ صوبے میں اپوزيشن جماعت کے ایک اہم نمائندے کی حیثیت سے رحمت سلام خٹک کی حمایت اور مؤثر کردار خیبرپختونخوا میں سولرائزیشن کے فروغ، پالیسی سازی، اور قابلِ عمل اقدامات کو آگے بڑھانے میں نہایت اہمیت رکھتا ہے۔

Green Energy Advocacy Dialogue | Peshawar | 05 May 2026

The Centre for Regional Policy & Dialogue (CRPD), in collaboration with community stakeholders and members of the Green Energy Jirga (GEJ), successfully organized a Green Energy Advocacy Dialogue on 05 May 2026 in Saifan, Badbher, Peshawar.

The dialogue brought together Social, political and cultural activists and community leaders participated in the dialogue to discuss cleaner, affordable, and sustainable energy alternatives in Pakistan. Participants highlighted the importance of solar energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in addressing rising electricity costs, environmental degradation, and energy insecurity.

Participants called for the removal of taxes on solar equipment, restoration of net metering, and greater investment and subsidisation of rooftop solar and battery storage systems in the upcoming budget.

Through interactive discussions and experience sharing, the dialogue promoted community ownership of decentralized energy solutions, including micro-grids and shared energy systems, while strengthening grassroots engagement on renewable energy advocacy and policy reforms.

Green Energy Walk

The Green Energy Walk at the University of Peshawar, organised by the Centre for Regional Policy and Dialogue (CRPD) alongside members of the Green Energy Jirga, civil society partners, and the Department of Criminology, brought together students, academia, community leaders, and activists to advocate for a clean, accessible, and sustainable energy future in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The initiative highlighted Pakistan’s growing energy challenges and the need to shift towards renewable solutions, particularly solar energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Participants called for the removal of taxes on solar equipment, the restoration of net metering, and greater investment in rooftop solar and storage systems. The walk also emphasized community-driven approaches, including micro-grids and locally owned renewable energy systems, as practical pathways toward energy security and sustainability.

The Green Energy Walk aimed to mobilize communities, amplify public discourse, and promote solar energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS) as practical solutions for a balanced energy future. It also highlighted key policy priorities, including the declaration of a National Battery and Energy Storage Emergency through tax removal and accelerated deployment of storage systems, lifting taxes on solar equipment and restoring a fair net-metering framework to incentivize adoption, along with enabling micro-grids and community-owned renewable energy systems to strengthen local energy security.

Today in Peshawar, the Centre for Regional Policy & Dialogue (CRPD) participated in an engaging study circle with students of UET Peshawar. The session focused on nationalism, patriotism, social justice, political and social engagement.

Mehran Wazir was the keynote speaker and spoke on nationalism, the central theme of the study circle, followed by Dr. Khadim Hussain, who enriched the discussion with his insightful guidance. The session brought together diverse perspectives and concluded with an interactive Q&A, resulting in a thoughtful and engaging exchange.

The Centre for Regional Policy & Dialogue (CRPD), in collaboration with the Green Energy Jirga and civil society partners, is organizing a Green Energy Walk – Promoting Cleaner Energy Alternatives in Pakhtunkhwa on May 06, 2026 at the University of Peshawar.

As Pakistan faces rising energy demand, increasing costs, and environmental challenges, this initiative highlights the urgent need to shift towards renewable energy solutions—particularly solar power and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The walk aims to mobilize students, communities, and civil society to advocate for sustainable, decentralized energy systems that can strengthen local energy security.

Through this activity, CRPD seeks to raise public awareness, amplify policy dialogue, and build momentum for key reforms, including tax relief on solar equipment, restoration of fair net-metering, promotion of electric mobility, and enabling community-based renewable energy solutions.

Consultative Meeting| CRPD's Fellowship Manual | 2026

The Centre for Regional Policy & Dialogue (CRPD) successfully conducted a consultative meeting on its draft Fellowship Manual, titled “CRPD’s Fellowship Program: Empowering Fellows for Democratic Change.”
The session brought together experts, practitioners, and academics to critically review the manual, offering valuable insights to strengthen its conceptual and methodological framework.
