Our Story

Hashoo Foundation (HF) is a knowledge-based, and impact-oriented organization aimed at empowering communities by leveraging knowledge as capital for their socio-economic uplift. The Foundation is the primary implementing agency of Hashoo Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy which is aligned with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Mr. Sadruddin Hashwani, Chairman Hashoo Group and Patron-in-Chief of Hashoo Foundation established the organization in 1988 as a Trust aimed at poverty alleviation through humanitarian and social sector strategies such as access to education, health/nutrition and sustainable livelihoods. The Hashwani family has a long-standing heritage of philanthropy spanning over more than seven generations, Hashoo Foundation is the institutional legacy of its pioneer ancestor, known as Mukhi Hashoo (1820-1915), who was active in community service.

In 2016, Mr. Murtaza Hashwani, Deputy Chairman Hashoo Group and Chairman of Hashoo Foundation built on his father’s legacy with a commitment to more inclusive development, greater outreach and meaningful impact in the lives of the people and communities HF aims to empower. The Foundation thus works with a global vision partnering with multiple stakeholders and communities across Pakistan, using knowledge to enable the underprivileged to become self-reliant and lead their lives with dignity. HF outreach extends to both, rural and urban settings, delivering direct services, building capacities and investing in action research in partnership with organizations that share same values. Thus far, HF has directly benefited 1,191,411 people (Male538,167 and Female 653,244) through its various programs across AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, Tribal Areas and 71 districts of Pakistan.

At the heart of the Foundation’s operations is the core belief that ‘together we make a difference’ and investing in people, especially women and youth ensures a socially cohesive and economically just society. For advancing its specific programs, HF has also established autonomous entities such as Hashoo Trust (for its Humanitarian & Sustainable Livelihoods Program), Hashoo Hunar (for its Skills and Human Capital Development Program), and Umeed-e-Noor (for its Persons with Disabilities Program). Currently, these programs/entities are managed by a team of development professionals and governed by independent boards.

HF now stands as an apex body that links local learning from experiences and international research with policy advocacy and wider development, engaging with the public sector, academia, national/global networks and private sector entities. Aligned with the SDGs, HF nevertheless maintains a thematic focus to facilitate national priorities and greater social impact; these key thematic areas of HF are: 1) Climate Change/Environment, 2) Entrepreneurship/Employment and Economic Growth, and 3) Social Sector Development.
