Today is International Hyena Day — and we have something rare to share.
These camera trap images were captured deep in the hills of Fort Munro, Punjab, by Snow Leopard Foundation's field team. What you're seeing is a striped hyena — critically endangered in Pakistan, and rarely documented on camera.
The striped hyena is not the villain of folklore. It is a keystone scavenger, silently cleaning our ecosystems, crushing bone and carcass so that disease does not spread. Without it, the food chain frays.
Yet it is being hunted, poisoned, and pushed out — with almost no conservation attention.
SLF's camera trap network across Punjab is helping us understand where these animals still survive, how they move, and what they need. Documentation is the first step toward protection.
On this day, we ask you to see the hyena — not through myth, but through the lens of a camera trap placed in the dark hills of Fort Munro.
