Tayyaba Khan, a high-spirited 27 year old, left the world on February 1, 2014. With the departure of her loveable soul, Tayyaba’s family resolved to create a welfare trust by her name. In April 2014, the Tayyaba Ghani Khan (TGK) Trust was born to help those less fortunate meet their basic needs. However, the way that the TGK Trust chose to operate has been different from many other charity organiz
ations. TGK Trust’s primary objective is to help build and support microenterprises. Using a thorough beneficiary identification process, we select families most deserving of aid. Within those families, we identify breadwinners or potential breadwinners desirous of an increase in the family’s overall income. We take into account what these individuals are already doing for income generation and provide them with appropriate support to improve their earnings keeping in mind their expertise and socio-cultural context. We create new income generation opportunities for those previously uninvolved in a particular occupation. Throughout the process, we motivate and monitor to achieve the best results. Our vision is to see our beneficiaries stand on their own feet in the times to come. Rather than creating a nation full of individuals dependent on others for their basic needs, we seek to foster a culture of economic independence both at the individual and household levels. In the upcoming future, we hope to venture into additional thematic areas, i.e., the provision of education and healthcare at the village level.
