Mehergarh: A Center for Learning is looking forward to working closely with the 5th Provoncial Ombudsperson, Najma Afzal Khan appointed by the Government of Punjab, as required by the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act. She has already started dealing with the pending cases and is committed to ensuring effective implementation in all sectors, throughout the province. She has a very dedicated team to support her in this work.

Presented her 2 books, Dr. Dr. Fouzia Saeed's 'Working With Sharks' to show when this work started in Pakistan, Dec. 22, 1997 & 'A Game Changer For Women' which documents 10 years of implementation throughout Pakistan.

Mehergarh: A Center for Learning was requested by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan to conduct a session for their Senior Managent Committee (SMC) in order to take their level of implementation of the Sexual Harassment Law to the next level. They believe that they will be in a stronger position to guide universities, if they all have a better understanding of the issue and the law. The new Chairman HEC & E.D. Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq were also present.

Mehergarh: A Center for Learning in collaboration with Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Sindh office, organized a one-day training on creating respectful and harassment free environment in universities of Karachi. Most of the participants were Inquiry Committee Members who were very engaged throughout the day. A great group of professionals to work with. They were all happy to receive Dr. Dr. Fouzia Saeed 's 'Working With Sharks' & Dr. Kamran Ahmad 's 'Between Saints & Sinners'.

A big thank you to Mr. Sulaiman Ahmad, Director In Charge of HEC Sindh Regional Office for making this happen.

For educating our next generation, we need to use formal & informal education - in addition to focusing on curriculum and text books, media can play a huge role, including positive messages in our TV drama serials and films - making strong policies and then implementing them - WE CAN DO IT!

Mehergarh: A Center for Learning has been working with the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan since 2010, when the sexual harassment laws were passed. HEC formulated its sexual harassment policy in the beginning of 2011 to compliment the law & ensure respectful and harassment free environment in all the Higher Education Institutes throughout Pakistan, so that students can focus on their studies and faculty members and other employees can earn a living with dignity.

We had a good meeting with Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq S.I MBBS,PhD, FCPS to welcome him to HEC and discuss the next steps to take this work to the next level. The relevant members of the senior management were also present to make sure everyone is on the same page. We are very hopeful that under the new leadership, we will be able to continue this work more effectively.

Maliha Husain presented a copy of 'A Game Changer for Women: Reviewing 10 Years of Implementing Sexual Harassment Laws in Pakistan' to Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, to inform him of the work done so far on the country-wide implementation of sexual harassment laws.
