Extremely Together is a body of 10 celebrated Young Leaders, all active in preventing and countering violent extremism in their communities and beyond. Handpicked by the seventh General Secretary of the United Nations and Nobel Laureate, Kofi Annan himself, and brought together by the Kofi Annan Foundation, they produced the world's first guide, by young people for young people, on how to counter violent extremism in your community. Now, they are a leading authority on representative youth policies and interventions to counter and prevent extremism in different regions of the world.
Extremely Together is building country chapters in different parts of the world and that is where the Extremely Together Pakistan Chapter comes in. Extremely Together Pakistan is an effort by young Pakistanis to accelerate Pakistanโs struggle against different kinds of violent-extremism prevalent in the country. It recognizes the sacrifices made by the people of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and wishes to create an equitable, just and peaceful society.
Extremely Together Pakistan organizes itself through a two-tier approach of transformational leadership. In the first tier, it gathers pro- and aspiring activists to form city-level groups and in the second tier, it fashions a national level leadership committee of 10 young leaders, representing different religious and ethnic groups of Pakistan.
We train young leaders to build their capacity as community gatekeepers and then transform their passion into a national-level leadership role by facilitating small-grants focused on interventions to prevent violent-extremism in Pakistan. We take a multi-faceted approach to counter and prevent violent extremism using social activism as a benchmark against hate, prejudice and divisive narratives.
We believe a culture of positive social engagement against extremism can be cultivated by using capacity building training, networking, dialogues, arts-based advocacy, social welfare activities to address push-pull factors, on-ground interventions and digital campaigns.
