Abdul Rashid was born in Dagwar Maldialan near Poonch city, in 1938. After obtaining his BA from Government College, Rawalpindi, he got commission in the Pakistan Army in 1959. Rashid is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and he has served the army at various command and staff appointments. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1984, which is when he started his second career in
private business which lasted for about 16 years. For the last eleven years, he turned his attention towards supporting education and writing, his third career, the one he is most fond of. He has written extensively on various issues and has been published in assorted Pakistani newspapers and magazines. Daanish Mustafa
Dr Daanish Mustafa is a founding member of Shahzaman Foundation. He is currently a lecture in Department of Geography at King’s College, London, where he teaches various courses to undergraduate and graduate students. He obtained his BA in Geography from Middlebury College in Vermont, USA. Dr Mustafa worked for two years in Pakistan for the non-profit sector on donor funded social development and environmental preservation projects. He subsequently obtained his MA in Geography from the University of Hawaii-Manoa in 1995 and his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA in 2000. He was a visiting assistant professor of geography at George Mason University, and then an assistant professor of Geography, at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, before joining the Department of Geography at King’s College, London in 2006 Since the inception of SZF, Dr Mustafa has urged the scholars to pursue higher education in humanities and social sciences, for he believes that Pakistan is producing more doctors, engineers and natural science graduates than it needs. Besides, he argues, promotion of social sciences is as important for sustainable socio-economic development of any society.
