This was unanimously agreed upon by the participants of IRADA’s regional meeting with representatives of regional unions of journalists and senior female journalists in Peshawar last week.

The meeting was organised with the support of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

Preventive medicine focuses on stopping illness before it starts, through awareness, early detection, and lifestyle changes. It has the potential to significantly reduce pressure on healthcare systems while improving long-term health outcomes.

In Pakistan, where healthcare remains largely reactive, this shift could mean fewer hospital visits, lower costs, and healthier communities overall.

“The state of women representation in the journalist unions and press clubs is abysmally low. The situation can be attributed mainly to the systematic, structural and social barriers which hinder women to become part of the media institutions.”

This was stated by the participants of IRADA’s regional consultation With representatives of journalists unions and women journalists leaders in Lahore.

The meeting was organised with the support of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

In Swat, illegal mining is not just an environmental issue. It is reshaping ecosystems, endangering species, and disrupting the livelihoods of communities that depend on the river.

Fishermen now travel farther and catch less, as decades of extraction have altered the river’s natural flow and habitat. Experts warn that continued mining could lead to ecological collapse and increased flood risks.

This is where climate and environmental reporting becomes critical - connecting policy, enforcement gaps, and lived realities.
