On this Independence Day, we remember the historic struggle of the people of South Asia who achieved freedom from exploitation in 1947. Independence was a great achievement, but protecting and strengthening it requires a continuous commitment to peace, democracy, development, education, health, equality, and human dignity.
As we move towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda, let us work together to build stronger, more peaceful and prosperous societies.
May the people of Pakistan and India continue to strive for a better future. Happy Independence Day!
