Climate change significantly impacts Balochistan, exacerbating poverty and leading to increased displacement and gender-based violence.
The region is experiencing severe water shortages, extreme temperatures, and erratic weather patterns, which undermine agricultural productivity and reduce access to essential resources. This environmental degradation leads to heightened poverty as families lose their livelihoods and struggle to meet basic needs.
As resources become scarcer, displacement rises, with many Balochistan residents forced to migrate in search of better living conditions. This displacement disrupts communities and strains urban infrastructure.
Additionally, the adverse conditions exacerbate gender-based violence. Women, already vulnerable in conservative societies, face heightened risks due to economic stress and displacement. They encounter increased domestic violence or exploitation as families cope with deteriorating conditions. Thus, climate change not only intensifies poverty but also aggravates gender inequalities and social instability in Balochistan.
