Rationale and Background:

Human Unity Movement (HUM) is a member based citizens’ organization established in 2003. The organization is formally registered under Societies Act of Pakistan as not-for-profit organization. It was formed by the likeminded young enthusiastic activists who are committed to pave the way of a democratic, prosperous and tolerant society where all citizens are equally empow

ered and enabled to access dignified life, secured livelihoods and respect for their fundamental rights. HUM primarily believes on democratic principles and has systematically incorporated these principles at programmatic and operational levels. Operative mechanism of the organization falls under the responsibility of Board of Directors (BoDs), formally elected by over 1750 men and women members of the General Council. The organizational setup thus presents a gender balanced and non-discriminatory democratic model of social integration. Program framework of the Human Unity Movement turns around sustainable development, peaceful coexistence and citizens’ empowerment. Members of the organization together are campaigning to access their fundamental rights, building peace and facilitating deprived communities to access basic amenities and secure their livelihoods. HUM in this regard has achieved several milestones and honored with certain awards. Started from a Union Council level, the organizational outreach is now being enhanced up to the district level. HUM is a representative of the District Health Board, operates the regional chapter of Pakistan Kissan Mazdoor Tehrik (PKMT) and is member of the various other social forums. The organization also has strong relationships with number of local and national social institutions and organizations. Vision statement:

Human Unity Movement is committed to foster the equality, peace and social justice through citizens’ democratic social movement. It entails education, mobilization and active involvement of excluded communities in the socioeconomic and political discourse. Goals and strategies
Being a membership based organization; HUM is obliged to take into account all the issues (identified by the members) on its development agenda and to frame the strategic outlines reflecting all primary needs of the communities. Members of the organization are of view that Human Unity Movement is to be a dynamic and vibrant organization, committed to promote and protect citizens’ rights, assert for peaceful coexistence and foster the agenda of sustainable development. The organization in this context is aimed to;
• Enhance social integration amongst diverse sections of the society, leading towards collectivism and peaceful coexistence;
• Socioeconomic empowerment of communities in a context where communities have equitable access to economic opportunities and resources and;
• Uphold the citizenship entitlements and fundamental rights

Advocacy and lobbying Campaigns
Campaign on un necessary custom and tradition that help us to minimize un necessary expanses on marriages and deaths. This practice would help us to somehow reduce the poverty of community. Union council Hattar is surrounded by three major cement industries showering tones of cement in every day causing bad impact on health as well as agriculture of the area. A campaign against industrial pollution is being carried out with support of district partners. A campaign on voter registration facilitated 300 women to register their vote. A campaign on CNIC facilitated 500 women for their CNIC in uc Hattar. A protest campaign against forced acquiring of land by Sarhad Development Authority. Rallies and press conferences are organized to support local farmers. Although this piece of land has not been saved but been able to saved other part of land proposed to acquire for housing colonies. Campaign against drug mafia to eliminate the drug in the society. In the result drug mafia is compel to put down the drug supply. This helps us to control drug in the society with support of police department. Campaign against the commission mafia in tehsil municipal administration (TMA) Haripur. In this regard member provincial assembly committed to implement their funds through HUM. Human Unity Movement(HUM) arranged accountability forum in union council Hattar. In these forums community made accountable their representatives on their issues. A campaign for people manifest to help community to present their basic issues before the election candidates. This manifesto is based upon grass root issues came after wide range of consultation of community. Peace dialogue among police department, reconciliation committee and HUM. This helps us to sensitize the community on any terrorist threat. Meeting with MPA and DCO Haripur on governance issues of Public Health and WAPDA. Meeting with SDO on Load shedding and over billing issues. Advocacy on democratic and labor rights with the support of SAHARA Foundation. Advocacy on Inheritance law and violence against women with the support of Aurat Foundation. Social action program on intersect harmony (she’aa sunni ) help to promote peace between both sects so that British council awarded peace award to youth ambassador group of HUM. Establish sport committee on union council base to promote peace, culture and anti drug campaign for youth. A campaign for right to education under the article 25 of the constitution with project of alf Ahlan. Estabishment of vocational centre for women. Programs/Projects completed so far:

Human Unity Movement has successfully completed developmental projects with the support of their district partners. So far HUM has been invested Rs 6.742billion in different developmental projects throughout the union council. A brief detail of these projects are as under

Established post office with support of Pakistan post. Organized eye camp with the support of local philanthropist. 2000 eye patients are treated with sophisticated equipment’s and medicines. 100 patients have got successful operations. Micro Credit:
Economic empowerment of under-developed societies is one of the core strategic thrusts of the organization. Initially SARAHAD Rural Support Program technically and financially supported the organization in launching Micro-Credit Program in Hattar Union Council under which an amount of Rs. 525,000 was disbursed as Micro Credit amongst 77 small businessmen throughout the Union Council. Recovery of the disbursed micro credit remained 100% and successfully accomplished within the stipulated timeframe. II. Community investment fund(CIF)
Now HUM launched its own microfinance program with a microfinance policy. SRSP is the partner, supporting technically and financially in launching this program. Under this program organization have been disbursed Rs. 150000 amongst 15 poorest women. This disbursed amount has been recovered successfully within recovery period. This program was initiated with small amount of Rs. 60000, but now organization has Rs. 200000 for this program. III. To overcome the demand and need of community, Human Unity Movement with the partnership of Ibrar Trust disbursed Rs. 3million with 100% recovery. Natural Resources Management:
Natural Resources Management is the key element of development interventions which helps rural communities in uplifting their economic asset base. Various initiatives have taken in this regard with a view to economic empowerment of the underdeveloped societies. Five numbers of small chick dams was constructed in different localities of Hattar village with financial and technical support of Barani Area Development Project-II (BADP-II). Three nurseries were also grown in Hattar village with active support of BADP-II and Forest Department Haripur. Five Water Courses have been constructed around canal irrigated lands of the habitants of Hattar Village with financial and technical support of Water Management Department Haripur. Apart from aforesaid activities, various demo-plots were also demonstrated throughout the Union Council Hattar along with providing seeds and fertilizers to various deserving farmers for the uplifting of their agricultural asset base and to introduce them with latest agricultural technologies. Skill Enhancement Program:
Hum contributed a lot in poverty reduction through skill enhancement. There are various success stories with Human Unity Movement (HUM); various male and female youth acquired skill trainings including PTC trainings, LHV trainings and other sectoral skills and then they were able to earn their livelihood by starting their own small businesses or attaining a job in industries. • IDPs Support Program:
Human Unity Movement (HUM) in collaboration with SAHARA Development Foundation remained engaged in relief assistance for women, children and men internally displaced persons (IDPs) providing them with food and non-food items adopting systematic mechanism i.e. o Early assessment:

Initial assessment of the situation was carried out about needs of IDPs, mapping of ongoing relief efforts, coordination systems and plans about the relief efforts. Setting

o Relief Services:
Relief services was started with establishment of IDPs camps in Govt. Primary and High Schools, hosting 25 families providing them with food and non-food items along with floor mats & beddings etc. HUM being an emerging organization was just unable to meet with required financial resources required for its emergency response program, however our efforts become fruitful when local philanthropists welcomed our request and contributed a lot to help IDPs.
