The Chief Minister
Government of Gilgit-Baltistan
Subject: Urgent Request for Resolution of Issues Concerning Education Fellows – Salary Increase, Service Extension, Budget Placement, and Permanent Status
Respected Sir,
With due respect, it is humbly submitted that the Education Fellows of Gilgit-Baltistan wish to draw your kind attention towards several critical issues affecting our job responsibilities, financial stability, and service continuity. We request your immediate intervention to address the following concerns:
1. *Unjust salary deductions & delayed payments*: Education Fellows were re-engaged from 1st August, but salaries were issued from 20th August, resulting in an illegal deduction of 20 days’ salary without justification. Moreover, a recent PDCN notification states that November–December salaries cannot be paid on time due to lack of funds, causing severe financial distress for fellows and their families.
2. *Unequal assignment of duties*: The department has been assigning Education Fellows exclusively to winter camps while regular, highly paid government teachers are on vacation with compensation. This selective treatment is inequitable and demotivating.
3. *Requests for improvement*: In addition to resolving the above grievances, the Education Fellows respectfully request your honour to consider the following measures for the betterment of the program and its participants:
- *Increase the salary* of Education Fellows to reflect their responsibilities and dedication.
- *Extend the service tenure* of Education Fellows in a timely manner to ensure continuity in educational programs.
- *Place Education Fellows in the regular budget* so that salary payments are secured and timely.
- *Grant permanent status* to Education Fellows to safeguard their job security and future benefits.
4. *Impact on service*: Education Fellows have been contributing positively to the education sector of Gilgit-Baltistan, as acknowledged in AKU/PDCN annual reports. However, ongoing administrative and financial challenges have created an atmosphere of uncertainty, leading to demoralization and potential resignations.
In light of the above, we humbly request your honour to kindly intervene and take prompt action to resolve these concerns at the earliest, ensuring fair treatment, financial stability, and job security for Education Fellows.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Yours faithfully,
Education Fellows
Gilgit-Baltistan
