Hunza Scholar Heads to Germany for AI-Based GLOF Research

Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan: Salem Ullah Baig an MS student at Karakoram International University (KIU) from Aliabad, Hunza has departed for Germany under the Erasmus+ KA171 Exchange Programme to conduct advanced research on Artificial Intelligence-based Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) prediction and mitigation.

The six-month research programme focuses on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Environmental Science with the aim of developing improved approaches for predicting and reducing the risks associated with GLOF events.

The research is being carried out as part of the KIU-GER project and is particularly significant for Gilgit-Baltistan, where glacier-related hazards pose serious risks to vulnerable communities and infrastructure.

During his research stay Salem Ullah Baig will work at a partner university in Germany under the supervision of a designated faculty member. His research is expected to contribute to scientific efforts aimed at improving disaster preparedness and protecting communities in high-risk areas.

The academic community and people of Hunza have expressed their best wishes to Salem Ullah Baig for a successful research journey and hope his work will contribute to the future safety and resilience of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Historic Achievement for Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan Air Force

Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan: Air Commodore Javed Gul Bahar a native of Khanabad village in Hunza has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first officer from Gilgit-Baltistan to attain the rank of Air Commodore in the engineering branch of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

The rank of Air Commodore is equivalent to the rank of Brigadier in the Pakistan Army.

Air Commodore Javed Gul Bahar’s promotion is being hailed as a testament to his dedication, professional expertise and distinguished service in the PAF engineering field.

His achievement has sparked widespread pride and celebration across Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly among the Shinaki community of Hunza. Residents have congratulated him and described his accomplishment as a landmark moment for the entire region.

His journey stands as an inspiring example for the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan, demonstrating how dedication, professional excellence, and perseverance can lead to remarkable achievements at the national level.

Sost Talent Shines at Fannan Regional Competition 2026, Qualifies for National Competition in Islamabad

Sost, Hunza: Young artists from Sost and Gojal Bala have achieved a proud milestone at the Fannan Regional Level Competition 2026, earning qualification for the National Level Competition scheduled to be held in Islamabad in October 2026.

In Sufi Kalam, Javeria and her team from Gojal Bala secured a notable position. Mehtab Shah represented Gojal Bala in the Poetry category, while Mosin Kamal showcased his skills in Photography.

Their success reflects the growing artistic talent of young people from Sost and Gojal and highlights the region’s rich cultural heritage and creative potential.

The achievement has been warmly welcomed by the local community, with residents congratulating all the participants and wishing them the very best for the national competition in Islamabad.

ہنزہ: ضلعی صحت افسر ڈاکٹر نزہت شفیع کی زیرِ صدارت ماہانہ DSRC اجلاس

ہنزہ کی ضلعی صحت افسر ڈاکٹر نزہت شفیع کی زیرِ صدارت ڈسٹرکٹ ہیلتھ آفیسر (DHO) آفس میں ماہانہ ڈسٹرکٹ سرویلنس ریویو کمیٹی (DSRC) کا اجلاس منعقد ہوا۔

اجلاس میں ڈسٹرکٹ پولیو آفیسر محترمہ سلطانہ شاہین نے پولیو سے متعلق اہم اشاریوں اور AFP (Acute Flaccid Paralysis) کی نگرانی اور ٹریکنگ کے حوالے سے جامع بریفنگ دی۔

اس موقع پر ڈاکٹر نزہت شفیع نے ضلع بھر میں صحت کی سہولیات کی فراہمی کو مزید بہتر بنانے، ویکسینیشن کوریج میں اضافے اور حفاظتی ٹیکہ جات کے نظام کو مؤثر بنانے کے لیے اہم ہدایات جاری کیں۔ اجلاس میں مستقبل کی صحت سے متعلق سرگرمیوں اور آئندہ کے لائحہ عمل پر بھی تفصیلی تبادلہ خیال کیا گیا۔

اجلاس کا مقصد ہنزہ میں صحت عامہ کے نظام کو مزید مؤثر بنانا اور بالخصوص بچوں کو پولیو سمیت مختلف بیماریوں سے محفوظ رکھنے کے لیے ویکسینیشن کوریج کو بہتر بنانا تھا۔

ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ اتھارٹی کے ملازمین پانچ ماہ سے تنخواہوں سے محروم، گھروں میں فاقوں کی نوبت

ذرائع کے مطابق ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ اتھارٹی کے ملازمین گزشتہ پانچ ماہ سے تنخواہوں سے محروم ہیں، جس کے باعث ملازمین اور ان کے خاندان شدید مالی مشکلات کا شکار ہو گئے ہیں۔

متاثرہ ملازمین کا کہنا ہے کہ مسلسل پانچ ماہ سے تنخواہیں نہ ملنے کے باعث گھریلو اخراجات پورے کرنا دشوار ہو گیا ہے اور کئی گھروں میں فاقوں کی نوبت آ چکی ہے۔ ملازمین کے مطابق وہ اپنے بچوں کی اسکول فیسیں بھی بروقت جمع نہیں کرا سکے، جبکہ روزمرہ ضروریات پوری کرنا بھی مشکل ہو گیا ہے۔

ملازمین نے بتایا کہ تنخواہوں کی عدم ادائیگی کے باعث وہ شدید ذہنی دباؤ کا شکار ہیں۔ ان کا کہنا ہے کہ وہ اپنی ذمہ داریاں پوری کرنے کے باوجود کئی ماہ سے اپنے جائز معاوضے کے منتظر ہیں۔

متاثرہ ملازمین نے متعلقہ حکام سے مطالبہ کیا ہے کہ پانچ ماہ کی زیرِ التوا تنخواہیں فوری طور پر جاری کی جائیں تاکہ وہ اپنے گھریلو اخراجات اور بچوں کی تعلیمی ضروریات پوری کر سکیں۔

ملازمین نے اعلیٰ حکام سے معاملے کا فوری نوٹس لینے اور تنخواہوں کی ادائیگی یقینی بنانے کی اپیل کی ہے۔

صحتِ مادر و بچے: ہنزہ بہتر، دیامر کی صورتحال تشویشناک، رپورٹ

گلگت بلتستان: گلگت بلتستان میں ماں اور بچے کی صحت سے متعلق حالیہ اعداد و شمار نے مختلف اضلاع کے درمیان نمایاں فرق کو اجاگر کر دیا ہے۔

رپورٹ میں گلگت بلتستان کے تمام 10 اضلاع میں حمل کے دوران طبی معائنے، ماہر طبی عملے کی موجودگی میں زچگی، پانچ سال سے کم عمر بچوں کی اموات اور بچوں کی غذائی و جسمانی نشوونما سمیت اہم صحت سے متعلق اشاریوں کا جائزہ لیا گیا ہے۔

اعداد و شمار کے مطابق ہنزہ کئی اہم شعبوں میں بہتر صورتحال رکھتا ہے۔ ہنزہ میں حمل کے دوران طبی نگہداشت حاصل کرنے والی خواتین کی شرح 94.7 فیصد جبکہ ماہر طبی عملے کی موجودگی میں بچوں کی پیدائش کی شرح 100 فیصد ریکارڈ کی گئی ہے۔

دوسری جانب دیامر میں صورتحال تشویشناک ہے۔ وہاں حمل کے دوران طبی نگہداشت حاصل کرنے والی خواتین کی شرح صرف 10 فیصد جبکہ ماہر طبی عملے کی موجودگی میں زچگی کی شرح 32.4 فیصد ریکارڈ ہوئی ہے۔

پانچ سال سے کم عمر بچوں کی اموات کے اعداد و شمار بھی دونوں اضلاع کے درمیان بڑا فرق ظاہر کرتے ہیں۔ ہنزہ میں ہر ایک ہزار زندہ پیدائشوں میں 13 بچوں کی موت جبکہ دیامر میں یہ تعداد 66 فی ہزار ریکارڈ کی گئی ہے۔

اعداد و شمار سے واضح ہوتا ہے کہ گلگت بلتستان کے مختلف اضلاع میں صحت کی سہولیات اور ماں و بچے کی نگہداشت کی صورتحال یکساں نہیں۔ ماہرین کے مطابق ضرورت کے مطابق بنیادی صحت کی سہولیات، حمل کے دوران طبی نگہداشت اور محفوظ زچگی کی خدمات کو مزید بہتر بنانا ناگزیر ہے۔

GB Assembly Delegation Arrives in Islamabad for Development Exposure Visit

Islamabad: An eight-member delegation of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has arrived in Islamabad for an exposure visit facilitated by the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP).

The delegation includes GB Assembly Member and former Law and Health Minister Syed Sohail Abbas Shah. During the visit the delegation is holding meetings with representatives of various government and non-government institutions.

The meetings focus on exploring investment opportunities, strengthening institutional partnerships and identifying ways to improve public services and create greater opportunities for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The visit is being seen as an important step toward promoting development, economic stability and public welfare in the region.
