Molaabad and Sumal Valley in Gilgit Baltistan are facing a severe threat from the erosion of the Ghizer River. Several homes and large areas of agricultural land have already been washed away, leaving families at risk and causing significant losses.

For the past seven months, the local community has continuously raised concerns and appealed to the relevant authorities to construct protective embankments. Despite repeated warnings, no preventive measures have been taken.

We respectfully urge the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and all concerned departments to take immediate action by constructing protective embankments to prevent further destruction. Timely intervention can save lives, protect homes, preserve farmland, and secure the future of the affected communities.

Alhamdulillah, the missing 13 years old schoolgirl Faryal Afzal from Jutial, Gilgit, has been safely recovered by Gilgit Police, and a suspect has been taken into custody.

This news brings relief not only to Faryal’s family but also to the entire community of Gilgit-Baltistan, which had been deeply concerned by her disappearance. We appreciate the efforts of the law enforcement authorities in ensuring her safe recovery and hope that Faryal and her family receive the support they need during this difficult time.

At the same time, Young Activists Movement (YAM) calls for a transparent, impartial, and thorough investigation into all aspects of the case. Establishing the facts, ensuring accountability where necessary, and maintaining public confidence in the justice system are essential.

The safety, dignity, and rights of every child must remain our highest priority.
