Association for Women's Awareness and Rural Development (AWARD)

AWARD was established on March 21, 1994 and is dedicated to community development work without any discrimination of s*x, caste, color, race and religion. It mainly helps the low income women and disadvantaged rural population to improve their socio- economic & basic human rights situation through group meetings, seminars, workshops, conferences, trainings and by providing them moral, professional and financial assistance in Projects and Programs. At present, AWARD is working in 4 districts namely Faisalabad(Centeral Punjab), Toba Tek Singh(Centeral Punjab), Muzaffargarh (Southern Punjab) & Manshera (KPK).

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬

For young people with skills and ideas, the right support can turn potential into a sustainable livelihood.

Under its 𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐀𝐍 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, AWARD Pakistan organized a two-day 𝑩𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 followed by a cheque awarding ceremony for 𝟑𝟖 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 at Sir Peter Shahzad Hall, Faisalabad.

A total of 𝐏𝐊𝐑 𝟐𝟖.𝟓 𝐥𝐚𝐜 was disbursed through cross cheques, providing 𝐏𝐊𝐑 𝟕𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐲 to support new start-ups or expansion of existing businesses.

The ceremony was graced by 𝐒𝐢𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧, Program Coordinator, KIA, the Netherlands, 𝐒𝐢𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐡𝐳𝐚𝐝, Founder & Advisor, AWARD Pakistan, and 𝐌𝐫𝐬. 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫, Executive Director, AWARD Pakistan.

Mrs. Christina Peter highlighted AWARD Pakistan’s commitment to youth entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods, while appreciating the URAAN team for its efforts in preparing and supporting young entrepreneurs.

The Business Development session, led by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐀𝐤𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐥𝐥, focused on practical aspects of starting and managing a business, identifying customers and markets, and understanding the essentials needed to run a business successfully.

With skills, business knowledge, and financial support, these young entrepreneurs now have the opportunity to turn their ideas into businesses, strengthen their livelihoods, and build a more secure future for themselves and their families.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞: 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞

Learning a skill is only the first step. For women to turn that skill into an income, they also need the right tools and practical business guidance.

Under the Poverty Reduction Project (PRP), AWARD Pakistan connected skills training with livelihood support for 17 women trained in detergent and phenyl making. They also received a Business Development Session led by Sir Akmal, Project Officer – URAAN, focusing on business planning and market opportunities.

On 12 August 2026, the trained women received Income Generation Kits at the AWARD Office, Faisalabad, in the presence of Mrs. Christina Peter, Executive Director, and Sir Peter Shahzad, Program Advisor.

These kits provide the practical means to put their skills into action, start or strengthen small businesses, generate income, and contribute to their families’ financial needs.

From learning a skill to having the tools to use it—this is how training can become a pathway to economic self-reliance.

When disasters strike, 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬. For communities living with the risk of floods and other emergencies, having trained local responders and essential resources can make the difference between confusion and coordinated action.

As a 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, a 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 (𝐓𝐨𝐓) 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐃𝐑𝐑), 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐃𝐑𝐌), 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 was conducted in Khairpur, bringing together 𝟒𝟎 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬.

The training was led by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞 𝟏𝟏𝟐𝟐, covering 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬, 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐢𝐝, 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐬.
The activity was 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐌𝐫. 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐳 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥, 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐫𝐬. 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, who specially joined the activity from the Head Office and emphasized the importance of 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲.

Mr. Arif Masih, Project Officer, presented an overview of the DRM Project’s activities. The event concluded with the 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐬 (𝐅𝐑𝐂𝐬), providing local teams with both 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 for emergency response.

On International Youth Day 2026, AWARD under its Women Leadership Program , in partnership with YDA, organized a youth seminar under the theme “ *Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”* The event brought together 94 young people from diverse backgrounds, with experts and representatives from Barnabas Aid, Yahowa Yari Church, and ZBS. The seminar focused on Human values, youth leadership, digital discipleship, skills development, quality education, and decent livelihood opportunities. Speakers encouraged youth, particularly young women, to become courageous and responsible leaders, use digital platforms positively, develop practical skills, and contribute to their families and communities. The Seminar highlighted that despite diverse backgrounds, young people share common aspirations for dignity, education, meaningful opportunities, prosperity, and a better future.

A brighter future begins when communities recognize the value of education and skills in transforming lives. With this vision, 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧, under its 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 (𝐇𝐃𝐈) Project, organized 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬, reaching 𝟐𝟎𝟓 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 across Chak 182, Ghosia Town, and Pualabad.

The sessions were facilitated by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐍𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐝 (𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫). 𝐌𝐫. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐳 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 (𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫), 𝐌𝐫. 𝐈𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 (𝐌𝐄𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫), and 𝐌𝐫𝐬. 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 (𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 AWARD) encouraged families to prioritize education and skills while introducing opportunities available through the HDI Project, including preschool education, school re-enrolment, vocational and IT training, health and hygiene awareness, market linkages, and scholarships for female students. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐟 also appreciated the initiative and encouraged active community participation.

The sessions sparked meaningful discussions and strengthened community commitment to education and development. A key outcome was the formation of Local Development Committees (LDCs), enabling community members to take ownership of local initiatives and work together toward a more inclusive and sustainable future.

𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬, 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞

“Small steps today can create a better Pakistan tomorrow.”

On International Youth Day, AWARD Pakistan, under its Women Leadership Program (WLP), in collaboration with the Pakistan Emerging Leaders Network - Faisalabad (PELN), Faisalabad, engaged 70 young people in a session on “Small Steps, Community Actions, and Building a Better Pakistan.”

The session encouraged youth to recognize their role in community action and positive change. Through interactive discussions, participants shared ideas, raised questions, and reflected on practical ways they can contribute to their communities.

The session strengthened youth awareness, confidence, and participation, encouraging young people to move from ideas to small but meaningful actions that can create lasting change. From practical community insights to inspiring reflections, Sir Azeem Christopher, Sir Nasim Anthony, and RASTA community leaders encouraged youth to turn awareness into action.

Facilitated by Miss Merry Nadeem, the session reminded us: change doesn’t always start big - it starts when young people choose to speak up and take the first step.

When young people take action, even small steps can become part of a bigger change.

𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

For many women from remote and marginalized communities, earning an income from home had never seemed possible. With limited exposure to vocational skills and small business ideas, these opportunities remained beyond their awareness that simple, low-cost products made with locally available materials could become a source of income.

On 𝟐𝟕 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟖 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧, under its 𝐏𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 (𝐏𝐑𝐏), organized 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 at the AWARD Resource Center, benefiting 𝟔𝟓 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬. The practical sessions covered detergent and phenyl making, handmade bag making, and handmade jewellery making, led by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐧 (𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐎 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐬) and 𝐌𝐬. 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐤𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐝 (𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐚 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬). Participants also benefited from a motivational session by 𝐌𝐫𝐬. 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 (𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫) and a marketing session by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐍𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐛 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐦 (𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫), equipping them with both practical skills and basic marketing knowledge.

Participants appreciated the training, sharing that it introduced them to practical home-based income opportunities and inspired them to begin supporting their families through their newly acquired skills.

For many participants, what were once ordinary household items are now seen as opportunities to earn an income from home, support their families, and take the first step toward financial independence.
