SGME (Society of Garment Manufacturing Engineers) formerly known as Garments Society was incorporated in 2004 with its President as Engineer Imtiaz Ahmad Khan (Batch 2000-2004). Since 2004 the Society strove to play its role in providing extra-curricular activities to the students of National Textile University, in a broader perspective, and students pursuing B. on in Garment Manufacturing specifically. Now in 2014 the Garments Society was renamed to SGME (Society of Garment Manufacturing Engineers) in order to give it a fresh and crisp outlook. SGME as an institution (voluntary organization) has a specific organizational hierarchy where rights & duties of each and every member have been pre-defined through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) [SGME Handbook (available in NTU LIbrary)]. SGME has a Council of Executives divided into "League of Advisors" and "League of Administrators". "League of Advisors" only consists of students from Final Year (Executive members) to provide advisory services to the President SGME. "League of Administrators" consists of 6 Commissions that are parallel in power & authorities to each other. There names are: Financial & Monetary Policy Commission (FMPC)---Publication, Printing & Public Relations Commission (PPPRC)---Industrial & Recreational Tourism Commission (IRTC)---Events, Seminars & Workshops Commission (ESWC)---Inter & Intra Department Sports Commission (IIDSC)---Girls' Representation & Empowerment Commission (GREC). In all of these 6 Commissions each has the following organizational hierarchy: 1 Commissioner [Final year (Executive member)], 1 Secretary [Final year (Executive member)], 1 Joint Secretary [Final year (Executive member)], 1 Additional Secretary [Final year (Executive member)], 2 Administrative members (3rd year) and 2 Sophomore members (2nd year). Thus each Commission consists of 8 members. Finally there is an Office of Ombudsman (محتسب) which is the President SGME's "Hawk's Eye" or "Auditor" or "Inspector". An Office of Ombudsman (محتسب) consists of the following hierarchy: Ombudsman (محتسب) [Final year (Executive member)], Secretary to Ombudsman (محتسب) [Final year (Executive member)], 1 Joint Secretary to Ombudsman (محتسب) [Final Year (Executive member)], 1 Additional Secretary to Ombudsman (محتسب) [Final year (Executive member)], 2 Administrative members (3rd year) and 2 Sophomore members (2nd year). STRICT LIMITATIONS: Each Commission is an independent body working under the guidelines of President SGME. There is no room for any interference in the working of any Commission by any other Commission(s). MANDATORY: Freshman Membership is granted to all of the boys & girls of the 1st Year(1st & 2nd Semester) B. Sc Textile Engineering specialization in Garment Manufacturing on mandatory basis. Freshman Membership allows each individual of 1st Year to come out of his/ her comfort zone and to involve in various extra-curricular activities. It allows 1st Year as Trainees to have a general training under their TRAINERS & direct superiors (Sophomore Members of 2nd Year) to gain multi-disciplinary experience in various Commissions. The Main Goal & Objective of such a comprehensive yet vibrant organizational hierarchy is not only to INSTITUTIONALIZE SGME but to provide rapid and efficient services to the ultimate beneficiaries (students of NTU).
